China's textile and apparel exports hit USD 29.27 billion in June 2026, surging 7.2% year-on-year and 14.3% month-on-month. Textile exports reached USD 13.52 billion (up 12.2%), while apparel exports stood at USD 15.75 billion (up 3.2%). However, this rebound is shadowed by rising cost pressures from oil and polyester filament price hikes. H1 cumulative exports of USD 145.96 billion were up only 1.4%, meaning June contributed the bulk of annual growth. Three drivers stand out: pent-up orders from tariff relief after the May China-US summit, early autumn/winter restocking by Western retailers (apparel exports jumped 21% month-on-month), and upstream resilience with textile exports growing 3.5% in H1. On the cost side, geopolitical tensions sent Brent crude above USD 76/barrel by July 10, exceeding most 2026 forecasts of USD 53-63. PTA prices rose 2.14% in a single day to CNY 6,024.5/ton (up 25.78% YoY), polyester POY hit CNY 8,168.75/ton (up 17.64%), and DTY reached CNY 9,218.75/ton (up 13.90%). The oil-to-polyester chain is fully activated. For factories, raw material costs are rising rigidly, while downstream acceptance remains uncertain. H2 is traditionally peak season for polyester filament, with over 60% of annual demand. Current loom utilization is at 52.85%, but grey fabric inventory has risen to 31.68 days, signaling structural risks of upstream price hikes meeting downstream sluggishness. Polyester leaders have shifted to active price support through coordinated production cuts, keeping inventories low. This makes polyester prices more resilient but also raises the risk of inventory losses if oil retreats. The outlook is cautious: Q3 likely maintains highs on restocking and export orders; Q4 depends on end-consumption and oil trends. Industry players should hedge via flexible procurement, tariff monitoring, and price-linked contracts.
