Mainstream polyester filament specifications saw a coordinated upward repricing within three days. The Wangjiangjing market data for 13 September shows FDY semi-dull 50D/24F rising from 10,550 to 10,650 yuan per tonne, 68D/24F from 10,250 to 10,350 yuan per tonne, and 150D/96F from 9,550 to 9,750 yuan per tonne, a single adjustment of 200 yuan per tonne. This is not a tentative move by one or two mills but a synchronised action across major suppliers including Rongsheng, Tongkun, Xinfengming, Hengyi and Shenghong.
Structural Features of the Price Shift
By specification, this round shows a clear pattern: fine denier leads, coarse denier follows. FDY semi-dull 50D/24F is quoted uniformly at 10,650 yuan per tonne across several mills, with Jiabao Chemical jumping from 10,400 to 10,550 yuan per tonne, a 150 yuan per tonne increase that outpaces peers. Mid-range specifications such as 75D/36F and 100D/48F generally rose by 100 yuan per tonne, while 150D/96F and 150D/36F saw larger catch-up gains of 200 yuan per tonne.
The POY segment followed suit. 50D/48F rose to around 9,950 yuan per tonne at Tongkun, Xinfengming, Shenjiu and Zhoushan Tianli. 75D/96F clustered between 9,850 and 9,900 yuan per tonne, while 100D/96F settled at 9,700 to 9,750 yuan per tonne. DTY increases were more moderate: 50D/36F moved from 13,100 to 13,200 yuan per tonne, 150D/48F from 10,500–10,550 to 10,600–10,650 yuan per tonne, and DTY network 75D/72F from 11,700 to 11,800 yuan per tonne.
The core message is that high upstream polyester raw material costs are transmitting into the filament segment, and mills are choosing to hold prices rather than push volume. Falling sales alongside rising prices suggests suppliers hold an optimistic view of the near term, or that current margins are too thin to justify volume-driven discounting.
Transmission Logic Across Industrial Belts
Wangjiangjing, located in Jiaxing, is a key distribution hub for polyester filament in the Jiangsu-Zhejiang region, and its pricing system serves as a bellwether for downstream weaving clusters in Shengze, Keqiao and Changshu. The origins covered in this adjustment span Tongkun, Xinfengming, Rongsheng, Hengyi and Shenghong in Zhejiang, plus Changshu Chemical Fibre, Yixing Huaya, Wujiang Nanma, Jiangsu Taicang and Luoyang Petrochemical. This geographic breadth indicates a nationwide collective move by filament suppliers rather than a regional short-term fluctuation.
For water-jet weaving enterprises in Shengze, FDY and DTY are core raw materials, and higher quotes will directly raise grey fabric costs. If grey fabric prices cannot transmit upward in tandem, processing margins in weaving will be squeezed. Printing, dyeing and fabric traders in Keqiao face a different pressure: quotation validity periods may shorten, and previously locked prices need recalculation.
From an upstream-downstream bargaining perspective, the key variable is whether polyester raw materials can sustain their strength. If PTA and MEG prices continue to oscillate at high levels, mills will retain the confidence to hold prices. Conversely, if raw materials soften, the sustainability of this round of increases will be in question.
Implications for Procurement and Export
Exporters need to pay particular attention to the combined effect of exchange rates and raw material prices. Higher yuan-denominated filament quotes, if coupled with currency fluctuations, could squeeze margins on USD-settled orders from both directions. For orders with lead times beyond four weeks, a gap may emerge between current quotations and actual future procurement costs.
Historically, September to October marks the early phase of the traditional peak season, when weaving enterprises typically replenish raw material inventories. This round of price increases coincides precisely with the restocking window, forcing buyers to choose between chasing prices to lock in or waiting on the sidelines.
One notable detail: DTY network 75D/36F at Jiaxing Wanjia rose from 11,200 to 11,300 yuan per tonne, while DTY network 100D/36F at Xiaoshan Yemao increased by 200 yuan per tonne. Differentiated products saw larger increases than standard varieties, suggesting mills are allocating more margin to higher-value specifications.
