On the same day, for the same specification of polyester staple fiber, the price gap between Jiangsu and Zhejiang can reach 280 yuan per ton — a figure higher than the per-ton net profit of many traders. Data from the spot market on September 11, 2026, offers a telling cross-section: under the uniform standard of cotton-type 1.56dtex×38mm, melt-spun, first-grade quality, Zhonglei goods in Huzhou, Zhejiang, were quoted at 8,720–8,730 yuan/ton; Xintuo in Xuzhou, Jiangsu, at 8,670 yuan/ton; Huahong in Wuxi at 8,470 yuan/ton; and Huaxicun in Jiangyin at 8,750 yuan/ton. On a single day, for a single category, the high-to-low spread approached 3.3%.

The Industrial-Belt Logic Behind Divergent Quotes

Start with the price trough. Huahong's 8,470 yuan/ton in Wuxi was the lowest in the sample, 280 yuan/ton below Huaxicun. This is no accident — Wuxi sits at the core of the southern Jiangsu chemical fiber cluster, with dense supplies of polyester chips and PTA nearby. Short-fiber plants there face lower feedstock short-haul costs and less inventory turnover pressure. In other words, Huahong's low quote is more likely a direct price-side manifestation of cost advantages from concentrated capacity.

Xintuo in Xuzhou, Jiangsu, at 8,670 yuan/ton, occupies the middle ground. Although Xuzhou is in Jiangsu, it lies farther north, with a longer transport radius to downstream weaving clusters such as Suzhou, Nantong, and Shaoxing. Logistics costs partially offset any potential production cost advantage. This price point suggests Xintuo weighs both its own costs and the feasibility of cross-regional sales when setting prices.

Zhonglei goods in Huzhou, Zhejiang, were quoted at 8,720–8,730 yuan/ton, with two price points from the same supplier likely corresponding to different delivery terms or settlement methods. Huzhou itself is not a major polyester staple fiber production area, but it is adjacent to Keqiao in Shaoxing, the country's largest chemical fiber fabric trading hub. Zhonglei's quote embeds a logistics premium for proximity to the core consumption market.

The most intriguing is Huaxicun's 8,750 yuan/ton in Jiangyin. Jiangyin and Wuxi both belong to southern Jiangsu, geographically very close, yet Huaxicun's quote is nearly 300 yuan/ton higher than Huahong's. This shows that in the highly standardized polyester staple fiber category, price differences stem not only from production and logistics costs but also from customer structure, payment terms, brand premium, and even order saturation. As a long-established chemical fiber enterprise, Huaxicun's client base may lean toward mid-to-high-end or long-term contract customers, naturally yielding a different pricing system from volume-driven plants.

Transmission of Price Spreads to Procurement and Trading

For downstream weaving enterprises and traders, a 280 yuan/ton spread means tangible room for procurement decisions. For a 30-ton truckload, choosing Huahong over Huaxicun saves about 8,400 yuan per order. But low price does not necessarily equal the optimal choice — buyers must also consider supply stability, batch consistency, minimum order quantities, and settlement cycles.

From the trading perspective, Hebei Chujiao Supply Chain Management Co. simultaneously represents four brands — Zhonglei, Xintuo, Huahong, and Huaxicun — delivering in Huzhou, Xuzhou, and Wuxi. This multi-brand, cross-regional agency model is itself arbitrage on price spreads. The core value of traders lies in using information gaps and logistics organization to match low-priced Jiangsu supply with high-priced Zhejiang demand areas, or vice versa, optimizing combinations based on customer preferences for brand and delivery.

Notably, fiber balls (ordinary) were quoted at 15,500 yuan/ton, in sharp contrast to polyester staple fiber. Fiber balls are water treatment filter media; although raw materials may involve chemical fibers, their application scenarios and pricing logic are entirely different. This high-priced sample reminds us that polyester staple fiber price analysis must be strictly limited to textile-grade cotton-type staple fiber and not conflated with industrial fibers.

From a broader perspective, melt-spun technology has become the mainstream production method for polyester staple fiber, and the 1.56dtex×38mm cotton-type specification is the standard item with the largest volume in spinning. When identical specifications show a spread of nearly 300 yuan/ton within a 300-kilometer radius, it indicates the market has not yet formed a fully efficient price discovery mechanism, with regional information asymmetry and logistics friction still present. The implication for buyers is direct: establishing a cross-regional supplier price comparison system controls raw material costs better than simply watching one or two long-term suppliers.

Practical Recommendations

For Buyers - Build a weekly price comparison table for major staple fiber sources in Jiangsu and Zhejiang, focusing on quote changes at Wuxi, Jiangyin, Huzhou, and Xuzhou - Don't look at unit price alone; convert logistics costs, payment term costs, and batch consistency into a comprehensive delivered cost before deciding - Maintain active inquiries with at least 2–3 suppliers across different regions for high-volume specifications such as 1.56dtex×38mm cotton-type

For Exporters - Monitor the linkage between the RMB exchange rate and domestic staple fiber prices; when domestic spreads widen, export quote competitiveness may fluctuate accordingly - When quoting overseas customers, clearly specify the exact specification, process (melt-spun vs. chip-spun), and origin of the staple fiber to avoid disputes from ambiguous standards - When using low-priced Jiangsu supply for export cost optimization, calculate inland transport to port surcharges in advance to ensure the arbitrage space genuinely exists
