The quotation spread for cotton-type polyester staple fiber (1.56dtex×38mm) widened to 8,470–8,750 yuan/tonne in mid-September 2026, a 280 yuan/tonne gap that is unusual for a normal season. This is not market disorder but a deliberate price ladder used by leading producers to segment customers—low prices for large locked volumes, high prices for small-batch, multi-batch buyers. For yarn mills, the traditional logic of “shopping around” is losing traction; what matters now is landed cost and delivery reliability.

Breaking Down the Price Structure

By delivery location, Zhonglei material in Huzhou, Zhejiang, quoted 8,720–8,730 yuan/tonne; Xintuo in Xuzhou, Jiangsu, quoted 8,670 yuan/tonne; Huahong in Wuxi quoted 8,470 yuan/tonne; and Huaxicun in Jiangyin quoted 8,750 yuan/tonne. Within the same category and specification, the spread between Wuxi and Jiangyin reached 280 yuan/tonne, while Huzhou and Xuzhou differed by only 50–60 yuan/tonne. Regional spreads are far smaller than corporate spreads, indicating that brand and settlement terms, not logistics radius, are the core pricing variables.

Huahong’s 8,470 yuan/tonne is notably below Huaxicun in the same region. Such “same-city, different-price” scenarios usually point to two possibilities: Huahong is clearing inventory, or its melt-direct spinning lines are running at high loads with lower marginal costs. Either way, it is a short-term boon for small and medium yarn mills relying on spot purchases, but sustainability is questionable—low-priced cargo often comes with minimum order quantities or cash-on-delivery terms.

Fiber balls (standard) across three diameters—30mm, 40mm, and 50mm—are uniformly quoted at 15,500 yuan/tonne, supplied by Henan Kaijie Water Treatment. Auxiliary material prices are completely flat, indicating neither cost push nor demand pull in the water treatment filtration segment, in sharp contrast to staple fiber volatility. This suggests current polyester chain fluctuations are concentrated in the fiber end, with downstream water treatment and nonwovens applications yet to follow.

Industrial Transmission Behind the Spread

What does a 280 yuan/tonne spread mean for yarn mills? For a medium-sized yarn line consuming 300 tonnes of staple fiber per month, choosing Huahong over Huaxicun could save 84,000 yuan in monthly raw material costs. But if low-priced cargo requires cash payment or large orders, capital occupation costs could eat more than half the spread benefit.

More critically, staple fiber price divergence often leads yarn quotation divergence. When corporate spreads exceed 200 yuan/tonne on the raw material side, they typically transmit to polyester yarn and blended yarn pricing within two to three weeks. By then, competition among yarn mills shifts from “who buys cheaper” to “who can sell.”

From a regional industrial belt perspective, Huzhou, Xuzhou, Wuxi, and Jiangyin cover the core corridor of the Yangtze River Delta’s staple fiber–yarn–fabric chain. Huzhou’s mid-range quote reflects its focus on local weaving demand; Xuzhou’s lower price may relate to its positioning serving northern Jiangsu and southern Shandong; Wuxi Huahong’s low price directly impacts procurement decisions of yarn enterprises in Jiangyin and Changshu.

For buyers, the core contradiction in the current window is not “whether low-priced cargo exists” but “how long it can be locked in.” Staple fiber prices are supported by PTA and ethylene glycol costs. If upstream raw materials stabilize, 8,470 yuan/tonne is likely a阶段性 bottom with limited downside.

Practical Recommendations

For Buyers - Do not look only at absolute quotes. Convert cash settlement capital costs into landed prices before comparing; a 280 yuan/tonne spread may shrink to under 150 yuan/tonne under cash terms. - For yarn mills consuming over 200 tonnes monthly, lock in two batches: secure 60% of volume at current prices, and observe PTA trends over the next two weeks before deciding on the remaining 40%. - Prioritize sources delivering within the same or neighboring province. Cross-regional logistics and time costs are not worthwhile when the spread is under 200 yuan/tonne.

For Exporters - During staple fiber price divergence, overseas customers become more sensitive to yarn quotes. Indicate a raw material price validity period (7–10 days recommended) in quotations to avoid profit erosion from raw material rebounds. - Monitor whether Huahong, Huaxicun, and other producers adjust export quotes in tandem. If domestic spreads have not transmitted to export markets, cross-market arbitrage opportunities exist, allowing for adjusted order-taking pace. - For Southeast Asian and South Asian customers, emphasize the specification stability of Chinese staple fiber (1.56dtex×38mm cotton-type melt-direct spinning) to offset price volatility pressure in negotiations with quality consistency.
