Polyester staple fiber spot benchmark settled at 8,573.58 yuan/ton, up 9.68% from 7,816.55 yuan/ton at the start of the month, marking a one-year high. This level stands about 15.5% above the annual median of 7,420.38 yuan/ton and has rebounded over 36% from the annual low of 6,267.17 yuan/ton. The price curve has climbed steadily from the bottom without a meaningful pullback, but whether downstream can absorb these costs will determine the duration of this rally.

Price Logic: Cost Push and Restocking Resonance

From the annual data, the current price has touched the upper bound of the statistical range, with the top gap at zero, meaning there is no historical reference for further upside in the short term. The daily gain of 0.27% is modest, but the cumulative effect of consecutive increases has put pressure on processors. Industry public data shows the annual average price of polyester staple fiber is around 7,196.32 yuan/ton, and the current level is nearly 20% above the average, indicating an overheated deviation.

The primary driver comes from raw materials. PTA and ethylene glycol prices have fluctuated upward during the year, directly raising cash costs for polymerization and spinning. Secondly, some downstream yarn mills and traders concentrated restocking under the "buy on rising prices" mentality, amplifying short-term demand. However, it is important to note that this restocking is more of an inventory transfer than terminal consumption expansion. Once prices stall, selling pressure from intermediate links will quickly emerge.

For factories, the most realistic contradiction is that raw material costs are rigidly moving up, while grey fabric and yarn quotes lag in transmission. Forcing price increases may divert orders to lower-quoted competing regions; maintaining original prices will continuously squeeze processing profits.

Industrial Cluster Response: Divergence in Keqiao and Shengze

Feedback from chemical fiber weaving clusters such as Keqiao and Shengze is not uniform. Enterprises producing conventional polyester taffeta and spring亚纺 are most sensitive to staple fiber price hikes due to severe product homogeneity. Some factories have begun reducing operating rates to avoid high-priced raw materials. In contrast, enterprises producing differentiated and functional fabrics, with stronger bargaining power, can still pass on some pressure through modest price increases.

The Nantong home textile sector is also affected. Filling-type staple fiber is an important raw material for home textiles, and price increases directly raise the ex-factory cost of quilts and pillows. However, home textile orders have longer cycles, and most enterprises have already locked in some raw materials earlier, so the short-term impact is limited. The real test will come when new orders are quoted.

The export side faces a more complex situation. RMB exchange rate fluctuations and repeated ocean freight rates make the adjustment window for export quotes very narrow. Some exporters choose to negotiate cost-sharing with clients rather than unilateral price increases to maintain long-term relationships.

Outlook: High-Level Oscillation More Likely Than One-Way Continuation

The warning signals of "2-year overrise, 3-year overrise" in the annual statistics deserve attention. Historically, when prices are at multi-year highs and downstream profits are squeezed, the market often repairs balance through periodic corrections. In the short term, raw material costs still support prices, but further significant gains require substantive terminal order cooperation.

If downstream weaving operating rates continue to decline, staple fiber demand will weaken marginally, and prices may oscillate at high levels before slightly retreating. Conversely, if "Golden September and Silver October" orders release beyond expectations, prices may test new highs again. For buyers, the current period is not a comfortable zone for chasing rallies but a window for refined inventory management.

Practical Recommendations

For Buyers - Purchase on demand and avoid building large speculative inventories near the annual peak - Monitor PTA and ethylene glycol trends as leading indicators of staple fiber cost support - Negotiate tiered pricing or batch locking with suppliers to spread single-point high-price risk

For Factories - Prioritize high-value-added, differentiated varieties to reduce over-reliance on conventional staple fiber - Evaluate the balance between operating rates and inventory turnover to avoid high-priced raw materials becoming unsold finished goods - Maintain quotation communication with downstream clients, signal cost pressure early, and strive for price adjustment space

For Exporters - Include raw material fluctuation clauses in new order quotes to reduce dual exposure to exchange rates and costs - Negotiate batch delivery and batch pricing with overseas clients to ease short-term funding pressure - Monitor tariff and trade policy changes in key export markets and adjust quotation strategies promptly
