The same specification of polyester DTY is being quoted with a spread of 660 yuan per ton between two neighbouring cities in Zhejiang. In late September 2026, market quotations for 150D/48F melt-spun semi-dull low-elasticity yarn ranged from 10,250 to 10,910 yuan per ton. That number deserves more attention than any market commentary: when product standards converge but prices do not, the market is quietly reclassifying its suppliers.

Quotation Landscape

Industry public data shows this round of quotes is concentrated in the Hangzhou and Shaoxing textile belts. Tongkun Group quoted 10,910 yuan per ton at the top of the range, followed by Rongsheng Petrochemical at 10,700 and Kaishi Group at 10,650. Senkai New Materials at 10,420 and Yongsheng Technology at 10,250 sat at the bottom.

The ordering is not random. Leading mills generally quote higher, while smaller players stay close to the floor. The logic is straightforward: large producers with integrated PTA and MEG supply can absorb raw material volatility and prefer to defend conversion margins. Smaller mills, facing thin order books, prioritise keeping machines running and price closer to cash cost.

For buyers, a wider spread opens a negotiation window, but it also demands a distinction between low price and low risk. A mill quoting near the bottom often shows similar volatility in raw material inventory cycles, batch shade consistency and delivery punctuality.

Industrial Transmission

150D/48F low-elasticity yarn is a staple input for water-jet looms producing polyester taffeta, pongee and oxford fabrics, directly tied to the operating rhythm of the Jiangsu-Zhejiang weaving clusters. Behind the price divergence lies a stratification of downstream demand: mills making standard lining fabrics are highly price-sensitive and push hard on procurement, while those producing functional fabrics with stable orders prioritise batch consistency and are willing to pay a premium to top-tier suppliers.

Once this stratification solidifies, it transmits upstream. If mid-tier mills keep trading low prices for orders, their raw material procurement will lean more heavily on the spot market, further eroding their buffer against polyester feedstock swings. If leading mills maintain high quotes, they need order saturation to justify them; otherwise inventory pressure will surface at month-end settlement.

For texturing mills around Shaoxing and Hangzhou, the more practical challenge is not the headline price but the difference in settlement terms for the same specification. Payment periods, acceptance bill ratios and freight responsibilities can influence the actual landed cost as much as a few hundred yuan per ton.

Trend Assessment

In the short term, polyester DTY prices are likely to stay in a wide range. Polyester feedstock lacks a single-direction driver, and the weaving sector is in a seasonal order transition, so neither supply nor demand is strong enough to force a quick convergence.

In the medium term, quotation divergence may become the norm. As the industry shifts from broad rallies and declines to structural competition, a single market average for one specification will carry less reference value. Buyers need supplier-level and batch-level price ledgers rather than a generic market number.

For trading firms, a wider spread implies arbitrage opportunities, but whether they materialise depends on logistics radius and settlement conditions. Cross-city freight and time costs can easily consume most of the paper spread, which explains why identical specifications coexist at different prices in neighbouring cities.

Practical Recommendations

For Buyers - Build a supplier-level quotation ledger covering specification, batch, payment terms and freight, not just unit price - Run small trial orders with low-priced sources, focusing on shade consistency and on-time delivery - Keep at least two qualified suppliers for core items to spread supply disruption risk

For Mills - If operating rates are under pressure, protect core customers and stable batches rather than disrupting schedules to chase orders - Monitor the spread between spot and contract feedstock to time procurement and inventory building - Clarify quality grades and corresponding quotes for the same specification to reduce customer comparison friction
