At 18,020 yuan per tonne, nylon DTY has moved to the upper end of its one-year range, only 940 yuan below the annual peak of 18,960 yuan, while sitting 7.65% above the 16,740 yuan level seen at the start of the month. More telling is the gap versus the yearly median of 16,260 yuan and the annual low of 13,560 yuan. The price position alone says something important: for most of the past twelve months, nylon DTY did not trade at this level, and the recent climb has been steep.

Price Position: High, But Not Yet at the Ceiling

Looking at the annual statistics, the benchmark stands at 18,020 yuan with a flat daily change, flagged as being at a high position. The distance to the top is negative 940 yuan, meaning there is still less than a thousand yuan of headroom before the cycle high. The distance from the bottom is 4,460 yuan, confirming that prices have clearly left the lower region. The full-year average is 15,521.48 yuan, and the current price is about 16% above that mean.

This structure does not carry a single meaning for the supply chain. For upstream chip and caprolactam producers, a higher price center supports margin recovery. For downstream weavers, higher raw material costs directly squeeze fabric margins, especially for sportswear, innerwear and outdoor functional fabrics that rely on nylon filament as a key input.

Whether the rally can persist depends less on the absolute number and more on whether cost-side support continues and whether downstream buyers can pass the increase through to finished goods.

Industrial Transmission: A Mismatch Between Cost Push and Demand Pull

Based on public data, the current rise in nylon DTY is primarily driven by raw materials. When feedstock prices climb without a matching increase in end-user orders, mid-stream weavers and traders face a dilemma: restocking at high prices locks in elevated costs, while waiting risks even higher procurement prices later.

From a regional perspective, nylon filament and weaving clusters in Zhejiang, Jiangsu and Fujian are most sensitive to these swings. Factories in these areas typically quote on a cost-plus-processing-fee basis. When raw materials rise quickly, quote adjustments often lag by one to two weeks, and orders taken during that window effectively absorb the spread.

For buyers, it helps to separate two types of demand. One is刚性 production demand that must follow the production schedule. The other is speculative stockpiling that bets on further gains. For the former, arrival timing and inventory turnover matter most. For the latter, the limited 940 yuan headroom to the annual peak implies meaningful pullback risk.

From an export angle, nylon fabric orders are mostly priced in US dollars. If raw material increases cannot be passed through to overseas quotes, exporters face pressure from both raw materials and currency.

Practical Recommendations

For Buyers - Execute rigid restocking in batches rather than locking in all volume at a single high point - Watch the distance to the annual peak; if prices approach the ceiling without volume confirmation, slow speculative stocking - Negotiate short-term price protection or floating pricing mechanisms with suppliers

For Mills - Recalculate processing fee space and shorten quote adjustment cycles during raw material upswings - Prioritize high-value-added orders to offset rising input costs through product mix - Monitor raw material inventory turnover days to avoid tying up cash flow in high-priced stock

For Exporters - Include raw material fluctuation clauses in export quotes to avoid bearing one-sided cost risk - Watch the combined effect of exchange rates and raw materials, using forward tools to lock costs when necessary - Lock prices in batches for long-cycle orders rather than exposing the entire volume at a high price point

Overall, nylon DTY sits at a one-year high but has not yet reached its ceiling, with cost-push characteristics clearly stronger than demand-pull. For all links in the chain, the real risk is not the price level itself but the time lag in price transmission and the mismatch in order timing. With limited headroom to the peak and a large deviation from the annual average, maintaining flexibility in procurement rhythm matters more than calling the direction.
