More than 30 textile and apparel companies made the 2026 China Private Enterprise Top 500 list, and 12 of them are primarily apparel businesses. The number itself is not startling, but the geographic split is: Zhejiang took seven seats, Jiangsu three, Fujian and Inner Mongolia one each. The private-sector leaders in branded apparel are heavily concentrated in the Yangtze River Delta and southern Fujian, with almost no presence from central or western China.

The Industrial Geography Behind the List

The All-China Federation of Industry and Commerce conducted its 28th annual survey of large-scale private enterprises, covering 6,350 companies with 2025 revenue above 1 billion yuan and selecting the top 500 by revenue. Hengli Group ranked in the top five overall. That a chemical fiber company outranks apparel brands on the list tells you something important: within the textile and apparel sector, upstream materials still generate more revenue than downstream brands.

Zhejiang's seven apparel-related entrants—Youngor, Xin Feng Ming, Peacebird, Semir, Shenzhou Knitting, Zhongzhe Holding and Boyang Holding—span menswear, chemical fiber, casual wear, knitwear manufacturing and home textiles. This full-chain distribution is not accidental. Zhejiang combines brand operation, fabric supply and knitwear production capacity within a short radius, which compresses the sampling-to-mass-production cycle in ways other regions struggle to match.

Jiangsu's three entrants—Heilan, Bosideng and Yalu—concentrate on menswear and down jackets, contrasting with Zhejiang's diversification. Fujian's Anta and Inner Mongolia's Erdos each represent a high-value niche: sportswear and cashmere. Depth in a single category can be enough to carry a company into the top 500.

Keqiao: The Underrated Manufacturing Presence

Keqiao's performance deserves separate analysis. Two companies—Zhejiang Baoye Construction and Jinggong Holding—entered the main top 500 list. Five companies—Jinggong Holding, Zhejiang Tiansheng Holding, Zhejiang Libo Holding, Zhejiang Yongli Industrial and Shaoxing Keqiao Hengming Chemical Fiber—entered the manufacturing top 500, one more than last year.

The structure of Keqiao's presence reveals something: the district's competitiveness lies not primarily in branding but in chemical fiber, construction and investment. Hengming Chemical Fiber's entry into the manufacturing list means Keqiao's fiber capacity has reached meaningful revenue scale. For fabric buyers downstream, Keqiao's bargaining power and supply stability are strengthening, not weakening.

From a supply chain transmission perspective, revenue growth at upstream fiber companies typically shows up in fabric prices with a lag. If Keqiao's fiber sector continues to scale, cost volatility at the fabric end may be further smoothed. But conversely, if fiber producers shift more capacity toward differentiated high-value fibers, supply elasticity for conventional fabrics could narrow, and buyers may need to lock in supply agreements for standard items earlier.

What It Means for Sourcing and Export

The concentration of branded apparel companies on the list signals that domestic brands are scaling revenue. For upstream fabric suppliers, this points to a shift in order structure: demand for functional fabrics, small-batch quick replenishment and sustainability certification will keep rising, rather than remaining at the price-negotiation level.

For exporters, the capacity footprint of listed companies is worth tracking. Revenue growth at contract manufacturers like Shenzhou Knitting typically corresponds to stable or expanding orders from international brands. If such companies continue to climb the rankings, it suggests China's knitwear contract manufacturing has not lost meaningful share in global supply chains.

The rising number of Keqiao manufacturers on the list also suggests exporters should watch changes in regional supply chain concentration. As manufacturing companies scale up, their procurement concentration and bargaining power increase. Small and mid-sized exporters sourcing fabric in Keqiao may face shorter payment terms and stricter minimum order requirements.

For Buyers - Monitor the pace of capacity expansion in Keqiao's chemical fiber sector; lock in quarterly supply agreements for conventional fabrics early - As more branded apparel companies make the list, requirements for fabric functionality and certification will rise; prepare test reports and sustainability certifications in advance

For Exporters - Track order trends at contract manufacturers like Shenzhou Knitting as a leading indicator of international brand sourcing - With rising manufacturing concentration in Keqiao, assess supplier concentration risk and avoid single-source dependence in fabric procurement
