Keqiao's peak season this year is less about order volume and more about order structure. Ahead of China's 2026 National Day holiday, trading areas across China Textile City saw dense buyer traffic as autumn-winter fabrics entered a concentrated stockpiling phase. What is really reshaping merchant operations, however, is not the return of buyers but the shift from bulk orders to small-batch trial runs. Industry data indicates that downstream apparel and home textile brands are tightening inventory, confirming processes with sample fabrics before placing staged production orders, leaving the market with rising volumes, stable prices and fragmented demand.
Peak season quality hinges on order granularity
By category, heat-retaining fabrics, woolen cloth, knitted elastic fabrics and brushed fabrics are drawing the most inquiries. In home textile zones, demand for minimalist solid-color bedding, wedding-series fabrics and sofa textiles is rising in tandem, with buyers locking in sample fabrics before the holiday and scheduling production afterward. For mills, this compresses the production window: sampling, courier dispatch and process confirmation must move earlier, or the autumn-winter launch window will be missed.
The spread of small-batch quick response effectively shifts inventory risk from brands upstream to the supply chain. Buyers test market response with lower trial volumes, while fabric suppliers absorb more stocking and sampling costs. For Keqiao merchants, the old logic of spreading costs over large orders is failing. Whether margins can be preserved on orders of tens or hundreds of meters depends on color card renewal speed, spot response capability and process communication efficiency.
Rising raw material costs squeeze margins, differentiation becomes leverage
Another pressure line comes from upstream. Chemical fiber and cotton yarn prices have recently fluctuated upward, transmitting cost pressure to the fabric end. Merchants are more cautious when taking orders, negotiating case by case and strictly controlling order risk. This explains an apparent contradiction: buyer traffic is recovering, yet merchants are not rushing to scale up, because profit margins on ordinary commodity fabrics have been sharply compressed by raw material volatility.
Changing demand from foreign buyers offers a breakout direction. Eco-friendly recycled fabrics, waterproof-breathable and antistatic functional products command noticeably stronger pricing power. Many operators are proactively reducing stocks of ordinary fabrics and shifting R&D toward new materials and processes. Recycled polyester and eco-friendly dyeing and finishing fabrics are becoming key categories for overseas market expansion. For buyers, this means more differentiated fabric options at the same budget, but potentially narrower negotiating room on lead times and minimum order quantities.
On the channel side, livestreaming and trade-show linkage are changing customer acquisition. Merchants host fabric livestreams in their showrooms, displaying texture and patterns, receiving remote clients online and completing sample review offline. Newly developed swatch cards and real-shot videos are packaged and sent directly to domestic and overseas buyers. Keqiao fabrics continue to ship to more than 190 countries and regions. The integration of online traffic and offline sampling allows clients who cannot visit the market in person to complete fabric selection efficiently.
Industrial belt resilience comes from products, not prices
Logistics zones are working overtime before the holiday, with packing, loading and shipping proceeding intensively as fabrics head to apparel factories nationwide and export ports. Market management is simultaneously strengthening environmental cleanup, fire safety and logistics support to keep pre-holiday trading orderly. These moves show that Keqiao's peak season competitiveness no longer rests solely on price, but on product renewal speed, service response and supply chain support.
For buyers and export enterprises, the signal from this year's Keqiao peak season is clear: supply elasticity for low-priced commodity fabrics is declining, while supply capability for functional and eco-friendly fabrics is rising. Those who can quickly confirm processes and lock in capacity during the small-batch stage will gain the initiative in the autumn-winter launch window.
