As the textile industry grapples with slowing export growth and diverging domestic demand, a state-led 'product screening' process is quietly being upgraded. The 2026 Top Ten Textile Innovation Products selection has officially launched, commissioned by the Ministry of Industry and Industry and Information Technology and co-organized by the China Textile Information Center and the Textile Product Development Center. This is no simple product competition; it is a systematic assessment of the industry's innovation capacity, supply quality, and brand value.
The Logic Behind Category Expansion
Compared to previous years, the ten categories are more refined and precisely target structural shifts in the consumer market: fashion, intangible cultural heritage, digital technology, sports function, comfort function, maternal and infant products, elderly products, safety protection, health and hygiene, and green and low-carbon products. These cover everything from mass consumption to niche scenarios, from basic functionality to emotional value.
Notably, digital technology products are now a standalone category, requiring the use of big data, cloud computing, and AI to enhance product experience, including wearable smart devices and smart home textiles. This signals that the traditional 'textile + electronics' crossover is moving from fringe innovation to mainstream competition. The separation of maternal/infant and elderly products reflects how demographic changes are forcing companies to redefine R&D directions.
Tighter Entry Requirements: From 'Participation' to 'Compliance'
Stringent requirements have been set for both enterprises and products. Companies must be registered in China, own a proprietary brand, have full production qualifications, and have no safety, environmental, or legal violations in the past two years. All final products (apparel, home textiles, technical textiles) must pass GB 18401 safety tests, and functional products need corresponding test reports and green certifications.
This effectively excludes many OEM or unbranded companies. For small and medium-sized export-oriented factories, this is a clear signal: future competition in the domestic market will no longer be about low-price volume, but about brand, technology, and compliance. The encouragement of joint applications between brand owners and upstream suppliers also suggests that supply chain collaboration will be key to accessing policy benefits.
Policy Linkage: More Than Just an Award
Winners will receive more than a certificate. According to the notice, selected products will be promoted nationwide through media and exhibitions, creating demonstration effects. More importantly, the number of selected products a company has will directly affect its eligibility for the 'China Consumer Goods Famous Brand' directory—a national brand cultivation system. This means being selected is essentially a ticket to the national brand recommendation list.
Additionally, non-selected products will enter a gradient cultivation program, offering training on trend interpretation, new materials, and digital technologies. This creates a closed loop of 'selection-cultivation-promotion,' making participation a capability-building opportunity even for companies still exploring transformation.
