On June 26, 2026, domestic PET FDY 150D/96F semi-dull prices showed significant divergence: Rongsheng Petrochemical and Zhejiang Juxing Chemical quoted 8,500 yuan/ton, while Tongkun Group quoted 8,750 yuan/ton, a spread of 250 yuan/ton. This 2.9% price gap within Zhejiang Province reflects differing inventory strategies and downstream order matching.

The Industry Logic Behind Price Divergence

The lowest quote of 8,500 yuan/ton, offered by Rongsheng and Juxing, is close to the industry average cash cost. With PTA at around 5,800 yuan/ton and a consumption ratio of 0.86, direct raw material cost for FDY is about 4,988 yuan/ton. Adding processing fees, depreciation, and overhead, 8,500 yuan/ton leaves only a thin margin for integrated producers, while for smaller melt-spinning mills it is near breakeven.

Tongkun's 8,750 yuan/ton, about 2.6% above the industry average, is likely linked to its product mix. Tongkun has invested heavily in differentiated FDY varieties such as cationic dyeable and micro-denier products. The higher quote for standard 150D may be a strategic move to maintain pricing power for premium products. Whether the market accepts this depends on downstream weavers' willingness to pay for brand premium.

Downstream Buying Caution

Feedback from major weaving clusters in Shaoxing, Xiaoshan, and Changxing shows operating rates at 68%-72%, down about 5 percentage points from May. Greige fabric inventory destocking has slowed, and weavers are purchasing raw materials on a hand-to-mouth basis, typically covering 5-7 days of consumption. The emergence of 8,500 yuan/ton quotes has spurred some inquiries, but large orders remain scarce.

Notably, Hangzhou Kaisi Chemical quoted 8,650 yuan/ton and Zhejiang Jiabao New Fiber quoted 8,510 yuan/ton, placing them in the middle of the 8,500-8,700 range. This tiered pricing structure indicates the market has not yet formed a unified price expectation. Trader inventories are at 15-20 days, a moderately low level. If downstream orders pick up seasonally in early July, a wave of restocking could occur.

Stress Testing the Supply Chain

FDY price weakness is transmitting both upstream and downstream. For upstream PTA, major suppliers like Yisheng and Hengli have yet to announce June contract settlement prices, with market expectations of a 50-100 yuan/ton reduction from May. If FDY continues to face pressure, PTA margins will likely have to give way. Downstream, 150D FDY is mainly used in air-jet looms for standard fabrics like polyester taffeta and pongee. Greige fabric prices are already near cost, leaving weavers with two options: squeeze raw material costs or reduce operating rates.

On the export front, June textile and garment data are not yet released, but container freight indices show a 12% increase on European routes and 8% on North American routes month-on-month. High freight costs are suppressing exports of low-value-added fabrics. As an intermediate raw material, FDY price movements reflect the transmission efficiency across the entire textile supply chain, from raw materials to end demand.

Short-Term Price Outlook

Based on supply and demand, the mainstream trading range for FDY 150D/96F over the next two weeks is expected to be 8,450-8,650 yuan/ton. The 8,500 yuan/ton level is a key psychological support; a break below could trigger panic selling by traders. Conversely, prices above 8,700 yuan/ton lack order support and are unsustainable. The key variable is the pace of end-brand clothing orders in early July. If domestic demand orders materialize as expected, the price center could shift modestly upward to 8,600 yuan/ton.

For Buyers - Current prices are at a cyclical low but have not yet bottomed. Consider phased purchasing covering 7-10 days of consumption to avoid locking in large volumes at once. - Monitor settlement policies from low-cost producers like Rongsheng and Juxing; some may offer rebates of 50-100 yuan/ton for long-term customers. - If no clear upward signal emerges by mid-July, shorten the procurement cycle to 5 days to preserve cash for potential further declines.

For Fabric Traders - Keep on-hand inventory within 15 days, prioritizing liquidation of earlier high-cost stock to reduce carrying costs. - Monitor the FDY-POY spread. If it narrows to within 300 yuan/ton, consider increasing POY purchases for subsequent texturing production. - When quoting downstream customers, adopt a floating pricing formula based on raw material cost plus processing fee to minimize unilateral price risk.
