The global textile industry is undergoing a profound coordinate reset, with factor pricing, growth engines, and supply-demand logic all experiencing structural shifts. Against this backdrop, the signals from the first Shenzhen Textile and Apparel Technology Innovation Conference deserve the full attention of the entire industrial chain.
Sun Ruizhe, President of the China National Textile and Apparel Council (CNTAC), delivered a core judgment: the industry has completed its leap from 'follower' to 'leader,' but the next challenge is no longer scale expansion—it is how to continue climbing the value ladder.
Structural Divergence Behind Scale Advantages
Public data paints a picture of an industry that is massive in size but increasingly fragmented internally. Total fiber processing volume has stabilized above 60 million tons, and textile and apparel exports have exceeded $300 billion for six consecutive years. In 2025, above-scale enterprises reported total revenue of 4.5 trillion yuan.
However, signs of divergence emerged in early 2026. From January to February, industrial value added for above-scale enterprises grew 5.4% year-on-year, with revenue reaching 641.66 billion yuan and total profit 15.55 billion yuan. Exports performed strongly, with textile and apparel exports hitting $50.45 billion, up 17.6% year-on-year. Textile exports alone reached $25.57 billion, up 20.5%, while apparel exports were $24.87 billion, up 14.8%.
Yet investment signals tell a different story. Fixed asset investment in the textile sector rose 18.8% year-on-year, but apparel investment fell 3.3%, and chemical fiber investment dropped sharply by 11.9%. This suggests capital is concentrating in upstream and technology-intensive segments, while labor-intensive downstream manufacturing is losing appeal.
Three Structural Changes Rewriting Competitive Rules
Sun Ruizhe summarized the current changes as shifts in factors, momentum, and markets. These are not short-term fluctuations but a systemic restructuring of the global industry's underlying logic.
At the factor level, geopolitics is repricing resources. The Middle East situation has pushed up logistics and raw material costs. In March, polyester filament yarn prices surged over 29%, and PA66 entered the '20,000 yuan era.' The U.S. launched the 'Vault Program' to stockpile critical minerals, pushing global supply chains from efficiency to resilience. Over 70% of manufacturers now prioritize supply chain resilience over pure cost efficiency.
At the momentum level, a deep mismatch has emerged between the accelerating pace of technological iteration and the linear speed of industrial transformation. The protection period for super-profits from a single technology has shrunk to less than 18 months, while China's technology commercialization rate stands at only about 30%. This means technological breakthroughs alone are no longer a moat; the key is how to shorten the chain from lab to production line.
At the market level, global GDP growth is expected to slow from 3.3% in 2025 to 2.9% in 2026, with consumer confidence weakening. Domestic household 'net deposits' have climbed to a record high of 78.02 trillion yuan, indicating tighter consumption spending. For textile enterprises, both external demand growth and shifts in domestic consumption structure will test product positioning capabilities.
Technology Integration Opens New Growth Spaces
Cross-border integration is reshaping industry boundaries. High-performance fiber capacity accounts for over one-third of the global total. Zhongfu Shenying's T1200-grade carbon fiber has broken through 8,000 MPa in strength, about ten times that of ordinary steel at only one-quarter the weight. These material capabilities are opening entirely new application scenarios in low-altitude equipment, embodied intelligence, and commercial aerospace.
Digital penetration is also rising. The digitalization rate across key links in the industry has reached 63.2%, higher than the national manufacturing average. Siren Care has integrated micro temperature sensors into smart socks, improving the accuracy of diabetic foot ulcer risk warnings by 87%. Industry value is shifting from single products to 'product plus service.'
The rise of national fashion trends is another noteworthy development. Anta and Shein were selected for the 2026 GYBrand World's Top 500 Brands, indicating that Chinese design is beginning to actively define trends. Social media has become a new fashion hub, and a full-industry-chain trend coordination research mechanism has been established.
