A single fashion show is reshaping the apparel industry narrative of a county-level city. On the evening of June 27, the 'Symbiotic Symphony: Rainbow Tianmen' show at Tianmen Sports Center featured Liu Yong, a two-time winner of China's top fashion design award. Behind the runway lies the city's ambition to transform from e-commerce volume growth to brand system rebuilding.
Data Behind the Industrial Shift
Tianmen's apparel e-commerce transaction volume surged tenfold in four years, from 7 billion yuan in 2021 to over 70 billion in 2025, with 43,000 market entities and products reaching over 150 countries. This data signals that Tianmen has completed its first jump from scattered processing to e-commerce clustering. But as scale expands, the brand gap becomes critical. Industry data shows average gross margins for county-level apparel e-commerce dropped from 25% in 2021 to around 15% in 2025. Branding is no longer optional but a survival necessity.
The Logic Behind the Show
Liu Yong's involvement goes beyond endorsement. Having worked for brands like Septwolves and K-Boxing, he now collaborates on productizing the 'Tianmen Yishang' regional public brand. Select runway pieces will enter the brand's product line and be sold through Tianmen's e-commerce and cross-border channels, creating a 'runway equals marketplace, design equals product' loop. This model is rare among county-level clusters, which typically remain in OEM or ODM stages. For foreign trade firms and buyers, Tianmen is shifting from 'make-to-order' to 'design-capable supplier', directly altering negotiation leverage.
Building the Brand Infrastructure
Since its 2023 launch, the 'Tianmen Yishang' brand has established a management standard system covering 6 categories, 26 sub-systems, and 194 standards. The brand pavilion is already in Tianmen and plans to expand to Wuhan. From an industrial belt perspective, Tianmen's approach offers a reference: brand building isn't completed by one show, but a show with product conversion capacity can serve as the brand system's first external contact point.
