Nylon DTY prices have settled at a mid-point level of 15,840 yuan per ton as of June 30, after months of gradual decline. This marks a drop of nearly 800 yuan or 4.81% from the beginning of the month. Over a full year, prices have fallen more than 16% from the peak of 18,960 yuan per ton recorded in June 2025.

Price Positioning and Market Signals

The current price sits exactly at the mid-point of the one-year range, suggesting the market is neither in panic nor poised for a strong rebound. The year's low was 13,560 yuan, the high was 18,960 yuan, and the median was 16,260 yuan. The current level is about 2.6% below the median, a zone that typically signals intense tug-of-war between bulls and bears.

Zero daily change at the end of June indicates a wait-and-see period. The absence of further sharp declines suggests some holders are reluctant to sell, possibly due to cost support. Yet the lack of upward momentum reflects cautious downstream buying. This stalemate often precedes a directional move in the industry cycle.

Dual Pressure from Costs and Demand

The fundamental driver of the decline is the simultaneous easing of raw material costs and weak end-user demand. The peak near 19,000 yuan a year ago corresponded to high caprolactam prices and a temporary recovery in textile and apparel exports. Since then, slowing global textile consumption, particularly prolonged destocking in European and American markets, has weighed on nylon filament demand.

For weaving mills, lower raw material costs should be a positive, but the concurrent drop in product prices has squeezed processing margins. At current levels, if raw material prices fall further, downstream buyers may adopt a 'buy on rising, not falling' strategy, delaying purchases and creating a negative cycle.

Transmission Effects in Industrial Clusters

Major nylon DTY consumption areas—such as Changle in Fujian, Zhuji in Zhejiang, and Wujiang in Jiangsu—are highly sensitive to price changes. The 15,840 yuan level is already below the psychological purchase threshold for some small and medium enterprises, yet large-scale restocking has not occurred. Industry data shows that nylon knitting machine utilization in East China stood at around 65% in June, 5 percentage points lower than a year ago, reflecting insufficient end orders.

On the export front, nylon DTY quotes are also under pressure. Increased competition from Southeast and South Asian markets, coupled with RMB exchange rate fluctuations, has eroded the price advantage of Chinese nylon products. Some foreign trade companies report that current export orders are mainly small batches with short lead times, providing little sustained price support.

Outlook and Operational Windows

Overall, strong support exists around 16,000 yuan, but a breakout requires tangible improvement in demand. July and August are typically off-season for textiles, so prices are likely to oscillate in the 15,500-16,500 yuan range. If caprolactam prices stabilize or autumn/winter fabric orders come early, a moderate rebound could occur. Conversely, if macro headwinds persist, a retest of 15,000 yuan support cannot be ruled out.

For Buyers - Consider phased buying at current levels, focusing on the 15,500-16,000 yuan range, and avoid large one-time positions. - Monitor upstream caprolactam prices; if they fall below 12,000 yuan, slow down purchasing pace. - Prioritize suppliers with integrated production cost advantages to mitigate double-dip risks.

For Exporters - Use the current low-price window to sign short-term framework agreements with overseas clients, locking in some forward order costs. - Track demand changes in Southeast Asia, especially garment export data from Bangladesh and Vietnam, as leading indicators. - Include floating price clauses in quotes to partially pass raw material volatility downstream, reducing unilateral risk.
