The benchmark price of nylon DTY fell to 15,840 yuan per ton at the end of June, down 4.81% from the beginning of the month, pulling the price back to the median of the past year's range. For buyers closely tracking chemical fiber markets, this suggests that both the extreme highs and lows of the past 12 months have been seen, and the market is entering a relatively balanced but fragile zone.

Price Position and Market Sentiment

Over the past 12 months, nylon DTY has traded between a low of 13,560 yuan/ton and a high of 18,960 yuan/ton, with a median of 16,260 yuan/ton. The current price of 15,840 yuan/ton sits about 420 yuan below the median but 2,280 yuan above the bottom. This 'below-median' position reflects a market that is neither panic-selling nor aggressively restocking.

Notably, the daily change is zero, indicating that both buyers and sellers are adopting a wait-and-see approach at month-end. Upstream cost transmission from caprolactam and PA6 chips has stabilized, while downstream weaving orders have not shown concentrated growth. This stalemate is typically broken when raw material inventories reach a critical point.

Profit Reallocation Along the Chain

Nylon DTY prices have fallen nearly 5% from 16,640 yuan/ton at the start of the year, but upstream caprolactam and PA6 chips have declined even more sharply. This means that the profit margin for the chemical fiber segment has not been fully compressed; instead, it has recovered slightly due to lower raw material costs. For integrated producers with polymerization, spinning, and texturing capacity, the current spread still supports normal gross margins.

However, for small and medium-sized enterprises that purchase DTY solely for weaving, the cost benefit from lower raw materials has not fully passed through to end products. Downstream home textile and apparel orders remain under pricing pressure, with brands aggressively squeezing margins. As a result, profits are concentrating upstream, while mid-stream processors bear more inventory risk.

Procurement Window and Risk Warnings

The current price is in the lower half of the annual range, with a 2,280 yuan gap to the historical bottom. This suggests further downside is possible but limited. For buyers with rigid demand, phased purchasing is safer than a single large buy.

On the other hand, extreme weather or crude oil price shocks could quickly tighten caprolactam supply and push DTY prices above the median. Locking in forward contracts or adopting floating pricing mechanisms are effective ways to mitigate price risk in this environment.

New Variables in Export Markets

Nylon DTY export quotes also weakened in June, but inquiries from Southeast Asia and South Asia have picked up. Some overseas buyers are taking advantage of the domestic price dip to restock, partially offsetting weak domestic demand. Export firms should monitor RMB exchange rate fluctuations, as the current rate makes RMB-denominated orders more competitive.

For Buyers - Current price is below median; split monthly demand into 2-3 purchases to avoid single-point risk. - Monitor the spread between PA6 chips and DTY; if it widens beyond 3,000 yuan, consider increasing purchase volume. - Negotiate floating pricing clauses with suppliers to lock in raw material cost volatility.

For Export Firms - Use the current price window to push quotes to Southeast Asian clients and secure long-term contracts. - Monitor RMB/USD exchange rate trends; settle foreign exchange early when rates are favorable to lock in export margins. - Offer small-lot mixed-color DTY samples to South Asian markets to lower trial order barriers.
