In 2025, large-scale textile enterprises achieved total revenue of RMB 4.5 trillion, and exports of textiles and apparel exceeded $300 billion for the sixth consecutive year. These figures were disclosed by China National Textile and Apparel Council President Sun Ruizhe at the inaugural Shenzhen Textile & Apparel Technology Innovation Conference on April 11, 2026. More significant than the aggregate numbers, however, is his diagnosis of four simultaneous structural shifts—factors, growth drivers, markets, and rules—that are rewriting the industry's fundamental logic.

Factor Revaluation: From Cost Efficiency to Supply Chain Resilience

Sun noted that geopolitics has transformed factor supply from a development issue into a security concern. Over 70% of global manufacturers now prioritize supply chain resilience over pure cost efficiency, according to the 2026 Global Trade Trends Report. In textiles, Middle East tensions pushed logistics and raw material costs higher: polyester filament yarn prices surged over 29% in March, and PA66 entered the RMB 20,000 per ton range. Orders from Bangladesh and India to Europe also faced mass delays. This signals the obsolescence of the "low cost + high efficiency" sourcing model; buyers must now evaluate suppliers based on geographic diversification and inventory buffers.

Growth Driver Shift: AI and Materials Revolution Compress Technology Windows

The conference highlighted that the industry's digitalization rate has reached 63.2%, exceeding the national manufacturing average, and China now produces over one-third of global high-performance fiber capacity. Yet Sun warned that the profit protection period for a single technology has shrunk to under 18 months, while China's technology conversion rate remains around 30%. This gap means the industry can no longer rely on "import-adapt-improve" cycles; it must accelerate lab-to-production efficiency. For instance, Zhongfu Shenying's T1200-grade carbon fiber exceeds 8,000 MPa in strength, opening new applications in low-altitude equipment and embodied AI. Meanwhile, Siren Care's smart socks with micro temperature sensors boost diabetic foot ulcer prediction accuracy by 87%—showing value is shifting from selling fabric to "product + service."

Supply-Demand Rebalance: Consumer Confidence Divergence and Trade Flow Changes

Uncertainty is reshaping demand. The U.S. consumer confidence index fell to its lowest since May 2014, while China's household net deposits hit a record high of RMB 78.02 trillion. These signs point to cautious purchasing behavior. Yet January-February data reveals structural bright spots: textile exports rose 20.5% year-on-year, apparel exports grew 14.8%, while investment in chemical fiber declined 11.9% but textile manufacturing investment jumped 18.8%. This divergence suggests capital is shifting from capacity expansion to equipment upgrades and digitalization. For buyers, this means suppliers with stable delivery and traceable quality will command a premium.

Rule Restructuring: Standards and Certification Become New Moat

Sun highlighted that the CSC9000T social responsibility system has gained global recognition, and a full-chain trend coordination mechanism is in place. As European and American markets tighten ESG compliance, these Chinese-led standards are becoming a "passport" rather than a "bonus." For exporters, merely meeting capacity is insufficient; providing audited carbon footprints and social responsibility reports directly determines access to major brand sourcing lists.

For Buyers - Reassess suppliers' resilience metrics: look beyond price and delivery to raw material inventory cycles, multi-site capabilities, and digital scheduling. - Engage early with high-performance fiber and smart textile suppliers: the technology window is short, and early partnerships can lock in material advantages for the next 3-5 years. - Integrate ESG compliance into supplier scoring: prioritize suppliers with CSC9000T or equivalent certifications to reduce audit risks.

For Exporters - Invest in digital transformation: the 63.2% digitalization rate is an average, not a ceiling. Connecting order and production systems is key to shortening lead times and building customer trust. - Diversify export markets: over-reliance on the U.S. is risky. Accelerate entry into Southeast Asia, the Middle East, and Latin America, leveraging China's cost advantages in chemical fibers and premium fabrics. - Proactively disclose carbon footprints and social responsibility reports: convert compliance from cost into a marketing edge. With the EU's Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism (CBAM) phasing in, early movers can gain a 3-5 year first-mover advantage.
