PTA CFR China prices recorded a notable jump at the end of June. According to industry data, the CFR China PTA benchmark settled at $754/ton on June 29, up $12/ton from $742/ton on June 26, representing a weekly increase of 1.6%. This price movement directly raised domestic import costs, providing strong cost support to the spot market.
Cost-Driven Rally and Futures Linkage
The impact of higher offshore prices quickly transmitted to the futures market. On June 30, all PTA contracts on the Zhengzhou Commodity Exchange closed higher, with the main 2609 contract settling at 5,558 yuan/ton, up 56 yuan/ton from the previous session, a gain of about 1%. Trading volume exceeded 690,000 lots, while open interest rose by 6,621 lots, indicating a clear increase in bullish positioning. Futures prices showed a strong performance underpinned by cost support.
From an industry logic perspective, the core driver of this PTA rally comes from the raw material side. PX, as the direct upstream of PTA, directly influences production costs. The upward adjustment in CFR China quotes means that domestic PTA producers face higher raw material procurement costs, which will provide a floor for PTA spot prices in the medium to long term.
Downstream Transmission and Potential Risks
Whether the cost-side benefit can be successfully passed downstream is the current market focus. The main downstream of PTA is the polyester industry, whose end demand is closely tied to textiles, apparel, and home furnishings. Currently, polyester plant operating rates remain high, maintaining stable demand for PTA. However, the sustainability of end-user orders remains uncertain, especially as overseas textile and apparel procurement has not yet shown a clear acceleration.
If end demand fails to effectively absorb upstream cost increases, polyester margins will be squeezed, possibly forcing plants to cut operating rates and reduce PTA purchases. If this scenario materializes, PTA inventory pressure will rise again, weakening upward price momentum.
Market Outlook Amid Bull-Bear Dynamics
From a scoring perspective, the current PTA market is dominated by bullish factors. The import cost support from higher offshore quotes, combined with active long capital in the futures market, suggests PTA prices are likely to maintain a strong performance in the near term. However, the increase in open interest also indicates growing divergence between bulls and bears. If no new positive catalysts emerge, prices may fluctuate within the current range.
For enterprises in the textile supply chain, the rise in PTA prices means higher raw material procurement costs. Companies are advised to closely monitor subsequent changes in offshore quotes and downstream polyester demand, and to plan procurement schedules rationally to avoid concentrated restocking at price highs.
