8,000 tons of new high-end cotton yarn capacity is flowing into the market from Changting County, Longyan, Fujian. This digital intelligent spinning workshop, built by Huaping Longjin with an investment of 130 million yuan, focuses on ecological vortex spinning yarn. According to the project plan, the annual output value will reach 200 million yuan at full capacity, translating to an average price of about 25,000 yuan per ton of yarn.
Transmission Path of Supply Shock
The pressure from the new project on the market is immediate. The Zhengzhou Commodity Exchange cotton yarn near-month 2610 contract closed at 22,935 yuan per ton on June 30, down 10 yuan per ton from the previous day. Although the single-day decline is modest, the signal is clear: the market has begun pricing in the new supply. For the textile supply chain, this means cotton yarn procurement costs may face more frequent fluctuations in the second half of the year.
From a regional industrial cluster perspective, Longyan is not a traditional cotton textile hub. The high-end vortex spinning project in Changting, Fujian, is more a microcosm of local industrial upgrading. However, the 8,000-ton annual output accounts for a very small share of national cotton yarn production. What deserves attention is its technology route—ecological vortex spinning. This process differs from traditional ring spinning in efficiency and yarn quality, potentially creating substitution effects in specific niche markets like high-end knitted fabrics.
Chain Reactions Upstream and Downstream
For downstream weaving and garment enterprises, increased cotton yarn supply is theoretically beneficial, as procurement bargaining power may expand. But the reality is more complex. The core contradiction currently facing the industry is sluggish demand recovery, with no significant rebound in domestic sales or foreign trade orders. If new supply is released intensively, it is likely to lead to passive inventory accumulation, forcing upstream cotton mills to lower prices.
Polyester yarn is temporarily unaffected by this event. The Huaping Longjin project does not involve polyester varieties, so its impact on the chemical fiber market is almost zero. However, caution is needed: if cotton yarn prices continue to weaken, the cotton fiber ratio in some blended products may be adjusted, indirectly affecting the demand elasticity of polyester staple fiber.
