On June 27, a new textile city with a three-dimensional model of 'exhibition-trade + intelligent manufacturing + design' officially opened in the core area of Changshu Garment City. Tianhong Textile City is not a traditional fabric wholesale market. Its 294 shops have achieved 85% occupancy, with about half of the merchants coming from outside Changshu, including Shengze, Keqiao, and Zhangjiagang. This cross-regional recruitment density reflects the ongoing shift from scattered supply chains to systematic integration in the Yangtze River Delta textile industry.
From Single Transactions to Full-Chain Closure
The most noteworthy aspect of Tianhong Textile City is not its opening itself, but the deep impact of its operational model on the Changshu textile industrial belt. For decades, Changshu Garment City has functioned as a commercial hub for garment trading and distribution, while fabric procurement has relied heavily on external markets like Shengze and Keqiao. Tianhong Textile City, for the first time, builds a complete internal circulation system in Changshu, covering fabric R&D, accessory matching, exhibition and trade, and garment manufacturing, from 'a single yarn' to 'a finished garment.'
This means local garment manufacturers in Changshu can now complete fabric and accessory procurement in shorter lead times, reducing intermediary costs. For the tenant merchants, such as animal fiber benchmark enterprise Zhongfuda, tech-fabric supplier Xinmanfeng, and outdoor functional fabric specialist Meiyuanhe, they gain stable access to local garment factories, rather than relying solely on external wholesale orders.
The Signal of High External Merchant Ratio
The management revealed that about 50% of tenant merchants come from outside Changshu, including Shengze, Keqiao, and Zhangjiagang. This ratio is rare among similar markets in the Yangtze River Delta. Typically, local specialized markets serve local merchants. By actively introducing high-quality external source suppliers, Tianhong Textile City essentially matches Changshu Garment City's garment manufacturing demand with external fabric and accessory production capacity.
For suppliers from Shengze and Keqiao, setting up a presence in Changshu means directly participating in the procurement process of hundreds of millions of garments annually, rather than passively waiting for buyers to visit. This 'direct supply plus demand front-loading' model is expected to shorten the verification cycle from fabric R&D to finished garments. For example, the '2026 Autumn/Winter Trend Show' jointly launched by Xinmanfeng, Jinashangjia, and Huaqiong Zhizao on opening day directly presented tech fabrics, luxury styles, and eco-friendly concepts to local garment manufacturers, reducing design communication costs.
Regular Matchmaking Reshapes Procurement Rhythm
Tianhong Textile City plans to hold at least one product matchmaking event, fashion show, or e-commerce client matching meeting per month, covering core industry customers, commercial distribution customers, brand customization customers, and emerging e-commerce customers. This high-frequency matchmaking mechanism is rare in traditional fabric markets. Traditional markets typically rely on exhibitions and merchants' own marketing, but Tianhong Textile City attempts to elevate procurement frequency from quarterly to monthly through active facilitation by the operator.
For buyers, this means more timely access to current season fabric trends and faster adjustments in garment design. For factories, stable matchmaking events help digest inventory fabrics and obtain customized demand from e-commerce and brand clients, reducing blind production.
