Polyester DTY prices showed notable weakness in early July, with industry leader Kaishi Group lowering its 150D/48F AA-grade product quote to 9300 yuan per ton on July 3, nearly 20 yuan below the previous day's market benchmark of 9318.75 yuan. More strikingly, Juxing Chemical Fiber offered the same specification at only 9000 yuan, widening the price gap to 300 yuan and signaling aggressive discounting by smaller players.
Supply-Demand Dynamics Behind the Price Drop
This price adjustment is not an isolated event. From July 1 to 3, the market benchmark for polyester DTY fluctuated marginally, but Kaishi's move broke the short-term equilibrium. Industry data shows that the DTY quote range has narrowed from 9300-9400 yuan to 9000-9300 yuan over the past week, with the bottom support clearly shifting downward.
The core contradiction lies in continuous capacity expansion on the supply side versus sluggish terminal demand recovery. In the first half of 2026, domestic polyester filament capacity increased by over 2 million tons, with DTY accounting for about 30%, leading to inventory buildup. Meanwhile, downstream weaving mills operated at a low 65%-70% utilization rate, adopting cautious procurement strategies focused on immediate needs rather than stockpiling.
Transmission Effects Across Industrial Clusters
As the largest chemical fiber cluster in China, price movements in the Xiaoshan-Shaoxing region (including Kaishi Group's base) often serve as a bellwether. Following Kaishi's price cut, neighboring enterprises may follow suit, creating regional downward pressure. In weaving-intensive areas like Shengze and Changxing, grey fabric prices have already softened by 0.1-0.3 yuan per meter, accelerating cost-side transmission.
For foreign trade companies, exchange rate fluctuations and overseas order uncertainty further dampen purchasing appetite. Southeast Asian textile mills are shifting to cheaper polyester yarn from India and Vietnam, eroding China's DTY export price advantage. The domestic market faces a seasonal lull, with autumn/winter fabric orders not yet concentrated.
Short-term Price Outlook and Operational Recommendations
Overall, polyester DTY prices are likely to oscillate within the 9000-9300 yuan range in early July. If aggressive pricing from players like Juxing persists, a break below 9000 yuan is possible. However, with feedstock PTA and MEG prices at relatively low levels, cost support for DTY remains limited, and further downside depends on demand recovery.
