A new transformation path for fabric professional markets is emerging in the Changshu Garment City area. On June 27, Tianhong Textile City officially opened, a new-type fabric and accessories market featuring a three-dimensional model of 'exhibition-trade + intelligent manufacturing + design'. It achieved an 85% initial occupancy rate, with about half of the merchants coming from outside Changshu, including Shengze, Keqiao, and Zhangjiagang. This data itself sends a signal: traditional fabric wholesale markets are being replaced by a model that emphasizes exhibition-trade experience, design services, and full-chain integration.
The Exhibition-Trade Model: From 'Stalls' to 'Showrooms'
A core change in Tianhong Textile City is the redivision of business spaces. Its 294 shops are layered: first floor for premium fabrics, second for branded accessories, third for source factory exhibition-trade centers, and fourth for independent factory exhibition-trade studios, supplemented by shared live-streaming rooms, sample-making rooms, and designer studios. This 'showroomization' means the market is no longer just a transaction venue but a multifunctional space for product display, design development, business negotiations, and even online live streaming.
Looking at the tenant structure, about 50% come from outside Changshu, and all are direct-supply enterprises in the mid-to-high-end fabric and accessories sector, including animal fiber benchmark Zhongfuda, tech fabric pioneer Xinmanfeng, outdoor functional fabric expert Meiyuanhe, and YKK zipper national distributor Shanghai Huying. This cross-regional, strong-category tenant mix reflects Tianhong's attempt to break the traditional market's 'local merchant dominance, category homogeneity' dilemma and attract a broader buyer base with differentiated supply.
Full-Chain Closed Loop: The Industrial Logic from 'Yarn to Garment'
The market operator's proposed full-chain closed loop from 'yarn to garment' is not just a slogan. Behind it lies the industrial foundation of Changshu Garment City as a hundred-billion-yuan industrial cluster. Tianhong plays a 'hub' role in this ecosystem, connecting upstream fabric and material suppliers from Shengze and Keqiao, and serving downstream garment manufacturers and brand clients in Changshu and beyond.
Market General Manager Liu Lanjun revealed at the opening that they plan to hold at least one product matchmaking event, fashion show, or e-commerce customer matching meeting per month. These high-frequency industrial networking events are essentially accelerating the matching efficiency of upstream and downstream information and order flows. For buyers, this means more direct access to source suppliers with fewer intermediaries; for tenants, it means more stable customer traffic and more precise order conversion.
Practical Impact on Textile Buyers and Foreign Trade Companies
The opening of Tianhong Textile City may have two levels of impact on the fabric and accessories procurement landscape in the Yangtze River Delta.
First, improved procurement efficiency. Traditional fabric market procurement often requires visiting multiple floors and markets. Tianhong concentrates premium fabrics, branded accessories, source factory showrooms, and design and sample-making services in one physical space, supplemented by a digital operation system. Theoretically, this can significantly compress the 'time cost' and 'decision cost' of procurement. For small and medium-sized garment brands and e-commerce sellers needing small batches, multiple varieties, and quick response, this one-stop model is highly attractive.
Second, resource flow between industrial clusters will become more frequent. With 50% of merchants from Shengze, Keqiao, and other regions, Tianhong is becoming a 'distribution center' for cross-regional fabric and accessory resources in Changshu. Shengze's chemical fiber fabrics, Keqiao's woven fabrics, and Zhangjiagang's wool products will reach Changshu's garment manufacturers more directly through this platform. For foreign trade companies, this concentrated resource pool also facilitates rapid sample development and order matching.
