Changle, the largest production base for chemical fiber blended yarn in China, is facing an efficiency revolution with no turning back. Local enterprises mainly produce polyester-cotton blended yarn, regenerated cellulose fiber blended yarn, and differentiated chemical fiber yarn, exhibiting significant cluster effects. However, data silos and insufficient flexible response in production processes are gradually eroding profit margins.

Background

In early July 2026, the Smart Manufacturing Committee of the China Cotton Textile Association, together with the Cotton Textile Committee of the China Textile Engineering Society, organized an expert team to conduct field visits in Changle District. The team visited six representative enterprises: Zhengxin Textile, Xingyi Textile, Keda Textile, Yaxin Textile, Lihua Smart Textile, and Liyuan Textile, focusing on digital transformation experiences, product technology upgrades, and practical difficulties.

Participating companies included Jiangsu Haima Textile Machinery Co., Ltd., Qingdao Shuangqing Intelligent Technology Co., Ltd., and Galaxy Futures Co., Ltd. Haima Machinery highlighted the application of intelligent collective doffing systems for ring spinning frames, intelligent tray feeding systems for winding machines, and the link between spinning and winding. The core logic is to help enterprises build long-term sustainable cost advantages through machine renewal and system upgrades.

Industry Impact

Changle's competitive advantage has long relied on scale effects and raw material support. However, public industry data shows that the slowing global economy is lowering consumption expectations, while geopolitical tensions in the Strait of Hormuz may raise raw material costs, paradoxically shifting some orders to China. This dual situation demands higher capabilities in inventory management and cost locking.

Professor Yan Taohai from Minjiang University pointed out that new flexible fiber technologies—including synthetic fiber modification, regenerated cellulose fibers, regenerated protein fibers, smart and functional fibers—are becoming breakthrough points for product innovation. This means Changle enterprises must shift from "maximizing output" to "deepening product categories," increasing added value through differentiated fiber applications.

The deeper value of digital transformation lies in breaking data silos and restructuring business processes. Zhou Yejun, former chairman of Wuxi No.1 Cotton Mill, emphasized that cotton textile enterprises must strengthen production hard power through smart manufacturing and enhance operational soft power through digital management, ultimately achieving lean upgrades and resilient growth across the entire chain. This is not just equipment replacement but a systematic reshaping from production to management and supply chain.

Practical Recommendations

For Buyers - Focus on Changle enterprises' capacity and new product development in differentiated chemical fiber yarns, especially regenerated and functional fiber products, which can serve as cost-effective alternatives to traditional polyester-cotton yarn. - Prioritize suppliers that have completed intelligent spinning-winding linking upgrades, as they offer better delivery stability and batch consistency, reducing downstream weaving downtime risks. - Use futures hedging tools to negotiate price-locking agreements with suppliers, especially during windows of geopolitical raw material price volatility, locking in procurement costs for long-term value.

For Foreign Trade Enterprises - Changle blended yarn has clear price and scale advantages, suitable as a raw material base for mid-range fabrics targeting Southeast Asian and South Asian markets; consider long-term agreements to hedge against exchange rate fluctuations. - Monitor product upgrade opportunities from new flexible fiber technologies, such as regenerated protein fiber blends, which can enter eco-certified orders in Europe and the US, boosting export premiums. - Partner with factories that have implemented digital management systems, requesting open access to certain production data interfaces to achieve full traceability from yarn to fabric, meeting international brands' hard requirements for supply chain transparency.
