The polyester staple fiber market is witnessing a stark divergence. On July 3, industry public quotes showed fiber balls (regular grade) holding firm at 15,500 CNY per ton, while cotton-type polyester staple fiber traded in a range of 6,940 to 7,320 CNY per ton. The nearly 8,000 CNY gap between the two categories reflects a structural split in downstream demand—rigid procurement from the environmental water treatment sector contrasts sharply with sluggish demand for textile-grade fibers.
Price Stratification: A Dual Game of Brand and Region
Even within the cotton-type segment, price tiers are evident. Zhejiang Tianchen Supply Chain quoted Zhonglei brand at 7,320 CNY/ton, 120 CNY and 170 CNY higher than Xintuo (7,200) and Yida (7,150), respectively. Huahong brand, quoted by Hebei Chujiao Supply Chain at only 6,940 CNY/ton, became the day's price low. These brand differentials stem from varying factory capacity utilization, raw material cost control, and regional logistics expenses.
Geographically, the price gap between Huzhou, Zhejiang (Zhonglei's origin), and Xuzhou (Xintuo), Suqian (Yida), and Wuxi (Huahong) in Jiangsu essentially reflects the cost gradient within the Yangtze River Delta industrial belt. Northern Jiangsu, with relatively lower labor and energy costs, holds a competitive edge in pricing.
Supply-Demand Logic: Textile Weakness vs. Environmental Rigidity
The downward pressure on cotton-type polyester staple fiber stems primarily from insufficient orders at downstream textile mills. The current season is a traditional slow period, with weaving mill operating rates generally low and raw material stocking intentions cautious. Melt-spun polyester staple fiber capacity continues to be released, making the supply-demand imbalance difficult to reverse in the short term.
In contrast, the logic behind firm fiber ball prices is entirely different. Fiber balls, used as filter media in water treatment, serve policy-driven rigid demand in industrial wastewater purification and municipal sewage treatment. As domestic environmental standards tighten, upgrades to wastewater treatment plants sustain stable procurement, giving suppliers stronger bargaining power. Henan Kaijie, the main quoter for this category, has maintained its 15,500 CNY/ton price for several consecutive days without adjustment.
Distribution Channels: The Rising Role of Supply Chain Firms
Notably, Zhejiang Tianchen Textile Supply Chain and Hebei Chujiao Supply Chain Management played key distribution roles in today's quotes. These companies are not traditional polyester staple fiber producers but trade service providers that integrate brand sources and downstream client resources. This supply chain model is reshaping the traditional "factory-trader-weaving mill" chain, reducing intermediary costs through centralized procurement and regional distribution. Hebei Chujiao attracts North China customers with its low 6,940 CNY/ton price, while Zhejiang Tianchen leverages the Yangtze River Delta cluster to offer multi-brand choices.
This trend implies that future price transparency for polyester staple fiber will increase, potentially weakening factories' control over end-user prices. Small and medium traders unable to provide value-added services (e.g., procurement agency, capital advance, logistics integration) risk being squeezed out.
