On July 6, the polyester staple fiber market showed a rare price divergence: water treatment fiber balls held firm at 15,500 yuan/ton, while conventional 1.56dtex×38mm cotton-type spinning-grade fibers ranged from 6,950 to 7,370 yuan/ton. The over 8,000 yuan/ton gap reflects sharply contrasting supply-demand dynamics across different application segments.
Price Snapshot: From 6,950 to 15,500
The day's quotes covered everything from Henan Kaijie's water treatment fiber balls (30-50mm diameter, all at 15,500 yuan/ton) to spinning-grade fibers from multiple brands. Zhonglei brand in Huzhou, Zhejiang, quoted 7,370 yuan/ton; Xintuo in Xuzhou, Jiangsu, priced at 7,170-7,200 yuan/ton; Yida in Suqian, Jiangsu, at 7,150 yuan/ton; and Huahong in Wuxi, Jiangsu, at just 6,950 yuan/ton.
This gap is no accident. Water treatment fiber balls are specialty functional products with high entry barriers, serving industrial water treatment plants with rigid demand and weak substitution. Spinning-grade fibers, by contrast, are standardized commodities suffering from overcapacity, giving downstream textile mills strong bargaining power that keeps prices depressed.
Industry Impact: Spinning Sector Margin Squeeze Intensifies
Spinning-grade fiber quotes in the 6,950-7,370 yuan/ton range represent a 5-8% decline from 2025 levels. Huahong's 6,950 yuan/ton price in Wuxi is approaching the cash cost line for some small-to-medium polyester plants. This means producers like Huahong face the prospect of selling at a loss, while downstream yarn mills capitalize on lower raw material costs.
For Jiangsu-Zhejiang spinning clusters—especially Huzhou, Wuxi, Xuzhou, and Suqian—this price level compresses polyester margins. Zhonglei's relatively firm 7,370 yuan/ton in Huzhou benefits from its melt direct spinning process cost advantage. But overall, the spinning fiber market's oversupply is unlikely to reverse soon.
