While the high-temperature dust removal industry still struggles with common issues like insufficient temperature and corrosion resistance, easy detachment of coated filter media, and high operational resistance, a new solution has emerged from a project appraised by the China National Textile and Apparel Council. Led by Zhejiang Huaji Environmental Protection Technology Co., Ltd. and partnered with Northeastern University, MCC South, and Yantai Tayho, the key spunlace filter cartridge technology has reached an internationally advanced level. Two production bases in Tiantai, Zhejiang, and Wuhan, Hubei, now produce a total of 36 million square meters of filter media annually. Behind these numbers lies a turning point for the entire high-temperature filtration material industry, transitioning from follower to leader.
Technological Breakthrough: From Gradient Pores to 3.5-Meter Ultra-Long Cartridges
Traditional filter cartridges suffer from three major pain points: poor high-temperature and corrosion resistance, especially in steel and waste incineration applications; easy peeling of coated media, reducing filtration efficiency; and high operational resistance leading to excessive energy consumption. The project team tackled these by focusing on the spunlace nonwoven process, overcoming core technologies for precise gradient pore control and high-pressure wide-width forming. This enables the filter media to have a fine surface layer and a loose bottom layer as needed, balancing filtration accuracy with low pressure drop.
A more significant breakthrough is the development of a microporous stiffening agent formula and a high-permeability stiffening process, successfully launching a 3.5-meter ultra-long non-coated, high-efficiency, low-resistance, energy-saving spunlace filter cartridge. Traditional cartridges are typically 1-2 meters long; at 3.5 meters, the filtration area per cartridge doubles, reducing the number of cartridges needed and lowering equipment volume and investment. The non-coated design eliminates the risk of coating detachment while achieving high efficiency through the base material's gradient structure. Additionally, the pioneering high-reliability wire-frame internal support structure eliminates dead zones for cleaning, significantly reducing equipment operational energy consumption.
Industrial Implementation: Two Bases and a Global Market of 40 Countries
Technology must not remain in the lab. The project has established two production bases in Tiantai, Zhejiang, and Wuhan, Hubei. The Wuhan base is equipped with the world's first ultra-wide, ultra-high-pressure spunlace machine, making it the only production base in China capable of mass-producing 3.6-meter non-spliced one-piece spunlace cartridges. Non-spliced means the cartridge is integrally formed without weak seams, ensuring higher reliability under high-temperature and high-pressure conditions. The two bases together produce 36 million square meters of filter media annually, and at full capacity, the annual output value is expected to exceed 1.5 billion yuan.
From an application perspective, the products have been widely adopted in high-emission industries such as steel, power, and waste incineration. Field measurements show particulate emissions consistently below 3.5 mg/Nm³, far below the national ultra-low emission standard of 10 mg/Nm³. This means companies using this technology can easily meet current standards and even prepare for stricter future regulations. The products are now exported to over 40 countries, reflecting growing international recognition of high-end Chinese-made filter media.
What It Means for the Industry: Competition and Cost Logic
For buyers, the technological upgrade directly reduces total cost of ownership. The 3.5-meter ultra-long cartridge reduces the number of cartridges needed, lowering equipment investment. The non-coated design extends service life, reducing replacement frequency. The low-resistance design reduces fan energy consumption, cutting electricity costs by 15%-20%. For a waste-to-energy plant processing 1 million tons annually, this could save hundreds of thousands of yuan per year in electricity alone.
For manufacturers, this technology raises the entry barrier for high-temperature filter media. In the past, the high-end market was dominated by European, American, and Japanese brands, with domestic alternatives limited to mid- and low-end products. Now, Chinese companies have mastered core technologies such as gradient pore control, ultra-long cartridge forming, and high-permeability stiffening, and have built world-class production lines. This means domestic filter media have transitioned from 'usable' to 'high-performance,' with the capability to export both products and technology overseas.
