A key technological breakthrough in spunlace filter cartridges is reshaping the landscape of high-temperature industrial dust removal. The project “Key Technology and Industrial Application of Energy-Saving, Carbon-Reducing, High-Temperature-Resistant, Corrosion-Resistant, Ultra-Long Spunlace Filter Cartridges,” led by Zhejiang Huaji Environmental Protection Technology Co., Ltd. in collaboration with Northeastern University, MCC South Engineering Technology Co., Ltd., and Tayho Advanced Materials Group, has recently passed the scientific and technological achievement appraisal of the China National Textile and Apparel Council. The overall technology was recognized as internationally advanced. This means that in energy-intensive industries such as steel, power, and waste incineration, the long-standing reliance on imported or unstable performance filter materials is likely to be broken.
Technological Breakthrough: Systemic Innovation from Material to Structure
Traditional filter cartridges in high-temperature, corrosive conditions generally suffer from three major pain points: insufficient temperature and corrosion resistance, easy detachment of the membrane, and high operating resistance. The project team tackled the issue from the source, overcoming core technologies for precise gradient pore regulation and high-pressure wide-width forming of spunlace filter media, developing ultra-wide, high-temperature-resistant, corrosion-resistant spunlace filter media substrates. The industrial significance of this substrate is that it no longer relies on membrane lamination for filtration accuracy but achieves gradient filtration through the fiber structure itself, fundamentally eliminating the risk of secondary pollution caused by membrane detachment.
In the forming stage, the team innovatively developed a microporous stiffening agent formula and a high-permeability stiffening forming process, successfully launching a 3.5-meter ultra-long, non-membrane, high-efficiency, low-resistance, energy-saving spunlace filter cartridge. This length specification is a first in the industry, meaning the filtration area per cartridge is significantly increased, reducing equipment size and replacement frequency. Simultaneously, the pioneering high-reliability wire-frame internal support structure, combined with an automated manufacturing system, effectively eliminates dead zones for ash cleaning and significantly reduces equipment operating energy consumption. For industrial enterprises focused on total lifecycle cost control, this represents tangible cost reduction and efficiency improvement.
Industrial Implementation: Two Major Bases Support Large-Scale Substitution
Beyond the technological breakthrough, the project’s industrial layout is equally noteworthy. Currently, two major production bases have been established in Tiantai, Zhejiang, and Wuhan, Hubei, with a total annual filter media production capacity of 36 million square meters. Notably, the Wuhan base is equipped with the world’s first ultra-wide, ultra-high-pressure spunlace equipment and is the only production base in China capable of mass-producing 3.6-meter non-spliced one-piece spunlace filter cartridges. This means downstream users no longer need to tolerate the leakage risks of spliced cartridges or pay high logistics and tariff costs for imported long cartridges.
From the application side, the products have been deployed on a large scale in industries such as steel, power, and waste incineration. Engineering field measurements show stable particulate emissions below 3.5 mg/Nm³, far superior to current national emission standards. More notably, the products have been exported to over 40 countries and regions, indicating their international competitiveness in terms of cost-performance ratio and performance. According to publicly available industry data, once the project reaches full production capacity, the annual output value is expected to exceed 1.5 billion yuan. This figure underscores the strong demand for high-end domestic alternatives in the high-temperature filtration material market.
Industry Impact: Implications for Buyers and Foreign Trade Companies
For buyers in industries such as steel, power, and waste incineration, this technological breakthrough means the logic of selecting filtration materials is changing. In the past, buyers often weighed the high performance and high cost of imported brands against the low cost but instability of domestic brands. Now, with domestic technology reaching internationally advanced levels and having mass production capabilities, buyers can reassess total lifecycle costs, including cartridge replacement frequency, energy consumption, and maintenance costs.
For textile foreign trade companies, this is a niche segment worth watching. High-temperature filtration materials are a high-value-added segment of technical textiles, with high technical barriers but also profit margins far exceeding those of conventional home textiles or apparel fabrics. As global environmental regulations tighten, especially with growing industrial dust removal demand in Southeast Asia, the Middle East, and Africa, Chinese companies with independent intellectual property and large-scale production capacity will have the opportunity to establish an export advantage in this segment.
