A breakthrough in domestic key technology for industrial dust removal is reshaping the competitive landscape of filtration materials under high-temperature and high-corrosion conditions. The project 'Key Technology and Industrial Application of Energy-Saving, Carbon-Reducing, High-Temperature and Corrosion-Resistant Extra-Long Spunlace Filter Cartridges'—jointly completed by Zhejiang Huaji Environmental Protection Technology Co., Ltd., Northeastern University, MCC South Engineering Technology Co., Ltd., and Yantai Tayho Advanced Materials Group Co., Ltd.—has recently passed a scientific achievement appraisal by the China National Textile and Apparel Council, with the conclusion that the overall technology has reached internationally advanced level.

Systematic Innovation from Material to Structure

Traditional filter cartridges have long suffered from three pain points in high-temperature flue gas environments: insufficient temperature and corrosion resistance, easy peeling of the membrane coating leading to efficiency decay, and high operating resistance driving up energy consumption. Rather than a single-point improvement, this project reconstructs the entire chain from base material, forming process to support structure.

At the base material level, the team overcame core technologies of gradient pore precise control and high-pressure wide-width forming for spunlace filter media, developing an ultra-wide, high-temperature and corrosion-resistant spunlace filter substrate. This allows the pore structure from the surface to the inner layer to be designed on demand, balancing high filtration precision and low resistance. In the forming stage, through a microporous stiffener formulation and high-permeability stiff forming process, a 3.5-meter-long non-laminated, high-efficiency, low-resistance, energy-saving spunlace filter cartridge was successfully introduced. The non-laminated design eliminates the risk of membrane peeling inherent in traditional laminated media, while the 3.5-meter length significantly reduces the number of cartridges required for the same filtration area, lowering equipment footprint and maintenance costs.

For the support structure, a pioneering high-reliability wire-framed inner support structure, combined with an automated manufacturing system, effectively eliminates dead zones for dust cleaning, significantly reducing equipment operating energy consumption.

Industrialization: Two Bases with 36 Million Square Meters Annual Capacity

The project has established two production bases in Tiantai, Zhejiang and Wuhan, Hubei, with a combined annual filter media production capacity of 36 million square meters. The Wuhan base is particularly noteworthy—it is equipped with the world's first ultra-wide, ultra-high-pressure spunlace machine and is the only production base in China capable of mass-producing 3.6-meter non-spliced one-piece spunlace filter cartridges.

The 'non-spliced one-piece' detail is crucial for users. Traditional cartridges often require multiple segments of media to be spliced together due to machine width limitations; the splicing seam is both a weak point and a leakage risk. The 3.6-meter one-piece forming means no seam, greatly improving sealing integrity and overall strength.

Products have been widely applied in demanding industries such as steel, power, and waste incineration. Engineering tests show particulate emissions stably below 3.5 mg per standard cubic meter, far superior to current national emission standards. Notably, products have been exported to over 40 countries and regions, indicating that their cost-performance and technical specifications have gained international buyer recognition. Upon full production, the project's annual output value is expected to exceed 1.5 billion yuan.

Industry Impact: Reshaping Procurement and Trade Landscape

For procurement teams in steel, power, and waste incineration, this breakthrough directly expands supplier options and improves bargaining power. Previously, the high-end market for high-temperature dust removal cartridges was dominated by foreign brands. Now, the domestic 3.5-meter extra-long non-laminated cartridge's measured emissions benchmark against international first-tier products, and its non-laminated design reduces replacement frequency and operating resistance, offering clear total lifecycle cost advantages.

For foreign trade companies, this case reveals a new direction for industrial textile exports—upgrading from low-value-added conventional filter cloths and bags to high-barrier, high-unit-price advanced filter modules. Customer validation in over 40 countries shows that with solid technology, domestic high-end filtration materials can compete head-on with global giants in the international market.

Practical Recommendations

For Procurement Teams - In high-temperature applications like steel sintering machine heads and waste incineration flue gas purification, prioritize testing domestic extra-long spunlace cartridges, focusing on long-term operating resistance changes due to the non-laminated design. - Require suppliers to provide proof of production capacity for 3.5-meter or longer one-piece cartridges and engineering emission test data as core criteria for supplier qualification. - Evaluate cartridge support structure—wire-framed inner support shows better cleaning effect and energy consumption performance in practice compared to traditional plate or mesh frames.

For Foreign Trade Companies - Position advanced filtration materials as a key growth product line for export, especially targeting regions with expanding steel and power capacity such as Southeast Asia, the Middle East, and South America. - In overseas exhibitions and customer communications, highlight the two differentiating selling points: 'non-spliced one-piece forming' and 'measured emissions below 3.5 mg/m³'. - Establish long-term supply partnerships with leading domestic filter media companies, leveraging their sales networks in over 40 countries as entry points for distribution channels.
