Polyester staple fiber (PSF) is experiencing a rare price divergence. According to the latest industry data, fiber balls for water treatment (30-50mm diameter) remain firm at 15,500 yuan/ton in Henan, while spinning-grade 1.56dtex×38mm PSF has dropped to 7,140-7,450 yuan/ton across Wuxi, Xuzhou, and Huzhou. The spread exceeds 8,000 yuan/ton, signaling two distinct pricing regimes: one driven by environmental regulations and industrial demand, the other trapped in overcapacity and weak textile orders.
The Logic Behind the Split
Fiber balls, produced by Henan Kaijie Water Treatment Co., are used in industrial filtration and oil extraction. Their price rigidity stems from steady demand for water treatment upgrades and limited capacity expansion in melt-blown and thermoforming processes. In contrast, spinning-grade PSF from Huahong (Wuxi) is priced at only 7,140 yuan/ton, while Xintuo (Xuzhou) and Zhonglei (Huzhou) are at 7,330 and 7,450 yuan/ton, respectively. The 190-310 yuan/ton gap among brands reflects varying inventory pressure and margin flexibility. This price level is near the Q4 2025 trough, prompting spinners to adopt hand-to-mouth purchasing.
Regional and Brand Spreads: A Critical Signal for Buyers
The 310 yuan/ton difference between Huahong (Wuxi) and Zhonglei (Huzhou) includes logistics costs and brand premiums. Huahong’s aggressive pricing in Hebei suggests a market-share strategy. For buyers, this underscores a shift from seller- to buyer-driven pricing. Comparing only the lowest price risks overlooking quality consistency, credit terms, and return policies.
Chain Effects: From Staple to Yarn to Fabric
Lower PSF prices should benefit downstream spinning and weaving, but cotton-type yarn prices are also under pressure, with limited recovery in garment orders. H1 2026 data shows domestic textile export growth slowing to under 3%. Most of the PSF cost savings are passed down the chain, squeezing margins across the board. Only firms with scale or differentiated products can sustain profitability.
