The industrial dust removal sector is undergoing a critical technological upgrade. A spunlace filter cartridge technology, jointly developed by Zhejiang Huaji Environmental Protection Co., Ltd., Northeastern University, MCC South Engineering Technology Co., Ltd., and Tayho New Material Group, has recently passed the technological achievement appraisal organized by the China National Textile and Apparel Council, with the overall technology rated at the international advanced level. The project's core addresses long-standing pain points of traditional filter cartridges under high-temperature, high-corrosion conditions: short lifespan, high resistance, and easy detachment of membrane coatings. It directly targets dust removal needs in high-emission industries such as steel, power, and waste incineration.
Technological Breakthroughs: Systematic Innovation from Material to Structure
Traditional filter cartridges suffer from three main issues: insufficient temperature and corrosion resistance, easy detachment of the membrane layer leading to reduced filtration efficiency, and high operational resistance increasing energy consumption. The project team started from the filter media substrate, overcoming precise gradient pore regulation and high-pressure wide-width forming technologies for spunlace media, developing extra-wide, high-temperature and corrosion-resistant spunlace filter media. This means the media can achieve a gradient pore distribution from coarse to fine at the microscopic level, efficiently capturing particulate matter while maintaining low pressure drop.
In the forming process, the team innovatively developed a microporous stiffening agent formula and a high-permeability stiffening forming process, allowing the filter cartridge to achieve efficient and low-resistance filtration without relying on traditional membrane coatings. This breakthrough resulted in a 3.5-meter extra-long, non-membrane, high-efficiency, low-resistance, energy-saving spunlace filter cartridge—significantly longer than conventional products, meaning a larger filtration area per cartridge, reducing the number of cartridges needed in equipment and lowering overall investment and maintenance costs.
Another key innovation lies in the skeleton structure. The project pioneered a high-reliability wire skeleton internal support structure, supported by an automated manufacturing system. This design eliminates common blind spots for dust cleaning in traditional cartridges, making pulse cleaning more thorough and significantly reducing equipment energy consumption. For large continuous operations like steel plants and power stations, reduced energy consumption translates into substantial operational cost savings.
Industrial Implementation: Two Bases Building Large-Scale Capacity
The project has established two major production bases in Tiantai, Zhejiang and Wuhan, Hubei, with a total annual filter media production capacity of 36 million square meters. The Wuhan base is particularly noteworthy—it is equipped with the world's first extra-wide, extra-high-pressure spunlace machine and is the only production base in China capable of mass-producing 3.6-meter non-spliced one-piece spunlace filter cartridges. This capability allows for wider, longer, and more uniform cartridges, eliminating weak points from seams and significantly improving product reliability.
From a market perspective, the products have achieved large-scale application in steel, power, and waste incineration industries. Engineering field test data shows particulate emissions stably below 3.5 mg per standard cubic meter, far exceeding current emission standards in most domestic regions. Products have been exported to over 40 countries and regions, indicating that their technological competitiveness has gained international market recognition. Once fully operational, the project's annual output value is expected to exceed 1.5 billion yuan. For the specialized field of environmental filter media, this scale will significantly increase industry concentration.
Industry Impact: Implications for Buyers and Foreign Trade Enterprises
For procurement departments in steel, power, and waste incineration industries, the maturity of this technology means new high cost-performance options for dust removal equipment selection. The non-membrane design reduces the risk of membrane detachment, the extra-long cartridge reduces replacement frequency, and the low-resistance design lowers fan energy consumption—combined, these factors significantly reduce total lifecycle costs. When evaluating suppliers, buyers should focus on the cartridge's gradient pore distribution, stiffening forming process, and skeleton structure design, rather than just filtration accuracy or initial price.
For foreign trade enterprises, the product has already been exported to over 40 countries, indicating real demand for high-performance spunlace filter cartridges in the international market. Especially in regions with strict environmental regulations like the EU and North America, where particulate emission limits are continuously tightening, such technologically advanced products have clear competitive advantages. Foreign trade enterprises can focus on overseas projects in steel, cement, and waste incineration industries, positioning the product as an "ultra-low emission solution" rather than just a consumable.
