Nylon FDY prices have been stuck in a sideways pattern for a full year.

According to industry public data, the benchmark price of nylon FDY stood at 16,300 RMB/ton on July 9, 2026, unchanged from the beginning of the month. Over the past year, this price sits at a mid-low position within a range of 14,175 to 19,950 RMB/ton, with a median of 17,062.5 RMB/ton.

Price Anchored Between Cost and Demand

The current price of 16,300 RMB/ton is 3,650 RMB below the annual high but 2,125 RMB above the low. This suggests that nylon FDY has neither broken through the cost floor nor rallied back to previous highs.

At 4.4% above the annual average of 15,616.87 RMB/ton, the current price actually represents a 'weak stabilization' after a period of lower values. For the chemical fiber supply chain, this sideways movement is more painful than a straight decline, as it forces both buyers and sellers into a wait-and-see mode, locking up inventory in the middle channel and amplifying any external shocks.

Industrial Belt Response: Lengthened Inventory Cycles

Key production areas for nylon FDY—such as Changle in Fujian, Xiaoshan in Zhejiang, and Wujiang in Jiangsu—have reported a shift toward shorter, more urgent orders over the past six months. Fabric mills and garment manufacturers have abandoned 3-month inventory builds in favor of a 'just-in-time plus weekly replenishment' model.

This shift has directly suppressed spot liquidity for nylon FDY and prevented plant operating rates from stabilizing at reasonable levels. Meanwhile, nylon chip prices have also moved within a narrow band, with caprolactam (CPL) costs providing no clear direction. Without upstream cost drivers or downstream demand catalysts, nylon FDY is left 'grinding a bottom' within its current range.

Implications for Buyers

For procurement teams, the current price is neither the best nor the worst entry point. The upside is limited price risk—the annual low of 14,175 RMB/ton suggests limited downside. However, if feedstock costs (e.g., benzene driving CPL) spike, nylon FDY could see unexpected upside, with a theoretical 762 RMB/ton gap to the annual median.

For export-oriented companies, the combination of a stable RMB exchange rate and sideways nylon FDY prices compresses the room for export pricing adjustments. Overseas buyers are more inclined to compare and negotiate, while domestic suppliers with thin margins find it difficult to concede.

Practical Recommendations

For Procurement Managers - Build a modest 2-3 week safety stock at current levels; avoid chasing highs but don't stay empty-handed in case of feedstock shocks - Monitor CPL and benzene price movements; if CPL breaks its previous high, nylon FDY is likely to follow, requiring early order locking - Negotiate flexible supply agreements with suppliers that include automatic replenishment mechanisms within a defined price band to reduce transaction costs

For Foreign Trade Companies - Adopt a 'weekly price adjustment plus raw material linkage' clause in export contracts to hedge against dual risks from currency and feedstock - Track capacity expansion in Southeast Asia; new spinning lines in Vietnam and Indonesia may exert downward pressure on Chinese nylon FDY export prices in the second half of 2026 - Use the current price plateau to sign medium-term framework agreements with overseas clients, locking in supply volume and base prices until the market direction becomes clearer
