Same category, two price systems—the polyester staple fiber market is undergoing a structural divergence. According to publicly available industry data from July 10, 2026, the price gap between water treatment fiber balls and textile-grade cotton-type staple fiber has widened to over 8,000 RMB/ton. This is not a simple product variation but reflects fundamentally different demand logics in downstream sectors.
The Industrial Logic Behind Price Divergence
For water treatment fiber balls, Henan Kaijie Water Treatment Co., Ltd. quoted ordinary fiber balls (30-50mm diameter) at a stable 15,500 RMB/ton. This price has been maintained for an extended period, reflecting rigid demand from the industrial water treatment sector. These products are primarily used in filtration stages of wastewater plants, with relatively stable procurement cycles and lower price sensitivity compared to the textile industry.
In contrast, textile-grade polyester staple fiber prices have narrowed but weakened overall. Hebei Chujiao Supply Chain Management Co., Ltd. reported representative data: Huahong brand's premium grade 1.56dtex*38mm melt-spun cotton-type staple fiber at 7,080 RMB/ton, Yida brand's same specification at 7,220 RMB/ton, and Xintuo brand at 7,330 RMB/ton. Zhejiang Tianchen Textile Supply Chain Co., Ltd. quoted Huaxicun brand's same specification at 7,370 RMB/ton.
Regional Supply Patterns and Price Differences
From a production geography perspective, textile-grade polyester staple fiber supply is heavily concentrated in Jiangsu Province. Xintuo's origin is Xuzhou, Yida's is Suqian, while Huahong and Huaxicun both originate from Wuxi. This geographic concentration means logistics costs have a relatively limited impact on final prices, with differences stemming more from each brand's production processes, raw material procurement costs, and market positioning.
Notably, the same trader shows a clear price gradient across brands: Huahong is 140 RMB/ton lower than Yida, and Yida is 110 RMB/ton lower than Xintuo. This price structure sends a clear signal to buyers—brand premiums are being compressed when quality is comparable.
Impact on Downstream Procurement Strategies
The current price divergence pattern imposes new requirements on textile enterprises' procurement decisions. Cotton-type staple fiber, as a main raw material for spinning and nonwovens, directly transmits price fluctuations to end-product costs. The 7,080–7,370 RMB/ton range means that if buyers can flexibly switch suppliers, they could save nearly 300 RMB per ton in raw material costs.
More noteworthy is the huge gap between water treatment fiber balls and textile staple fiber. This gap is unlikely to narrow in the short term, as the two markets differ completely in technical standards, customer bases, and demand elasticity. Companies engaged in cross-sector supply need to reassess their product line structures.
