The polyester staple fiber market showed a pronounced divergence on July 10. Water treatment fiber balls (standard grade) held firm at 15,500 yuan per ton, while textile-grade cotton-type polyester staple fibers ranged from 7,080 to 7,370 yuan per ton, nearly 8,000 yuan lower. This gap reflects fundamentally different supply-demand dynamics in two distinct application segments.
Water Treatment Fiber: High-Value Track Remains Strong
The price stability of water treatment fiber balls stems from their high-value application. Supplier Henan Kaijie quoted a uniform 15,500 yuan per ton for fiber balls with diameters from 30mm to 50mm, underscoring the rigid demand in industrial water treatment. Stricter environmental policies and rising standards for industrial wastewater treatment directly boost demand for efficient filtration materials.
This price level means more than double the margin compared to textile-grade fibers. For upstream chemical fiber producers, shifting toward differentiated, high-value products offers a viable path away from commoditized competition. However, the water treatment fiber market has limited capacity and cannot become the industry mainstream in the short term.
Textile-Grade Polyester Staple Fiber: Widening Spread, Intensifying Competition
The price range for textile-grade cotton-type polyester staple fiber was 7,080-7,370 yuan per ton, with a maximum spread of 290 yuan among brands. Huahong offered the lowest at 7,080 yuan, while Huaxicun priced highest at 7,370 yuan. Xintuo and Yida fell in between at 7,220-7,330 yuan. This gradient directly reflects differences in cost control and market positioning.
- Huahong and Huaxicun, both in Wuxi, showed a 290-yuan gap, indicating brand premium and customer loyalty play key roles in pricing.
- Xintuo (Xuzhou) and Yida (Suqian), both in Jiangsu, quoted 7,330 and 7,220 yuan respectively, highlighting cost differences within regional clusters.
Industry-wide, textile-grade polyester staple fiber prices are at multi-year lows. Downstream textile mills show weak purchasing sentiment, with slow destocking in yarn and fabric sectors putting pressure on upstream prices. For staple fiber plants, profit margins are squeezed, and some small-to-medium capacity may face production cuts or shutdowns.
Regional Industrial Clusters: Price Transmission in Jiangsu
All suppliers and brands in this report are concentrated in Jiangsu Province, particularly Xuzhou, Suqian, and Wuxi. As a major domestic production hub, Jiangsu's dynamics serve as a bellwether for the national market. The price gap of about 150 yuan between northern Jiangsu (Xintuo, Yida) and southern Jiangsu (Huahong, Huaxicun) reflects differences in raw material transport costs, energy prices, and environmental investments.
Northern Jiangsu benefits from lower land and labor costs, while southern Jiangsu firms have deeper advantages in technology, branding, and customer relationships. As the industry continues to migrate to central and western China, this intra-provincial price structure may evolve further.
