PTA prices stabilized around 5910 yuan per ton in mid-July 2026, marking a cumulative increase of over 35% from the year's low. This shift has direct implications for the textile supply chain: as the core raw material for polyester, higher PTA costs are raising production expenses for polyester filament and staple fiber, and this pressure is slowly transmitting to fabric weaving.

Price Position and Historical Comparison

Public data shows that the current PTA price sits in the mid-high range of its one-year statistical cycle. From July 2025 to July 2026, the price bottomed at 4363 yuan per ton and peaked at 6933 yuan per ton, with the current level about 1022 yuan below the all-time high. This gap suggests that while the rebound is significant, it has not yet entered the extreme high zone.

Notably, the one-year average price is approximately 5384 yuan per ton, meaning the current price is about 9.8% above the average. For buyers, this indicates that raw material costs are already significantly above the industry norm, with no clear signal of a sharp decline in the near term.

Upstream and Downstream Transmission

The primary drivers of the PTA price increase are tight upstream PX (paraxylene) supply and temporary supply contractions due to maintenance at some PTA plants. On the polyester side, filament prices have risen but not enough to fully cover the increase in raw material costs, squeezing processing margins for polyester mills.

Weaving enterprises face dual pressure: on one hand, it is difficult to raise grey fabric prices because end-use garment orders have strong bargaining power; on the other hand, raw material inventory cycles have shortened, forcing companies to accept higher procurement costs. Feedback from major fabric hubs such as Shengze and Keqiao indicates that small and medium-sized weaving mills have begun reducing operating rates to control inventory risk.

Outlook and Recommendations

From a supply-demand perspective, PTA social inventory remains at a moderate level, but the pace of new capacity release is uncertain. If downstream polyester demand maintains resilience, PTA prices may oscillate in the 5500-6200 yuan per ton range. Conversely, if terminal orders weaken, prices could correct below 5000 yuan per ton.

For Buyers - Avoid large stockpiles at current levels; adopt a phased procurement strategy to control single-purchase volumes. - Monitor PTA plant maintenance schedules and PX import data, as these leading indicators can signal price direction 1-2 weeks in advance. - Negotiate floating price contracts with suppliers to share price fluctuation risks.

For Weaving Mills - Reduce inventory of standard products and focus capital on raw material procurement for high-value-added orders. - Use forward price locking tools to hedge against sudden price spikes that could erode profit margins. - Establish closer order coordination with downstream apparel brands to shorten the lead time from raw material to finished product.
