The chemical fiber market is experiencing a delicate price equilibrium. According to public industry data, the benchmark price of polyester staple fiber settled at 7373.48 CNY/ton on July 14, down 0.61% from the beginning of the month. This seemingly flat figure, when plotted on the past year's price coordinate system, falls precisely near the median line—7346.6 CNY/ton. This means that the current price neither triggers cost panic in the industry nor stimulates a new wave of panic buying; the market is in a typical wait-and-see phase.

Price Range and Industry Signals

From the annual statistics, the price of polyester staple fiber fluctuated between 6267.17 CNY/ton and 8426.02 CNY/ton over the past 12 months, with an amplitude exceeding 34%. The current price of 7373.48 CNY/ton is 1106.31 CNY above the historical low and 1052.54 CNY below the historical high. More notably, this price is about 5.5% below the arithmetic average of the past year (6984.86 CNY/ton), indicating that the price center of gravity in the first half of the year was actually dragged down.

For textile enterprises, a median price usually means that the upstream-downstream game has entered a stalemate. Upstream PTA and MEG raw materials are influenced by international oil prices, providing limited cost support; downstream weaving and home textile companies, due to slowing growth in end-user orders, have a strong willingness to reduce inventory. Under this two-way pressure, it is difficult for polyester staple fiber prices to form a unilateral trend.

Transmission to Industrial Clusters: From Inventory to Production Scheduling

The price signal is transmitting to industrial clusters. In major polyester staple fiber production areas such as Shaoxing and Xiaoshan, factory production schedules have clearly slowed down. July is usually the start of preparation for autumn and winter fabrics, but this year, downstream buyers generally adopt a 'buy-as-needed' strategy, unwilling to build large inventories at median prices. Some small and medium-sized chemical fiber plants have begun to proactively reduce loads to avoid product inventory buildup.

This cautious sentiment is also reflected in the trading sector. The willingness of middlemen to stockpile has dropped to freezing point. Public industry data shows that the turnover days of social inventory of polyester staple fiber at major distribution centers have extended by about 10 days compared to the same period last year. The accumulation of inventory pressure, in turn, suppresses the room for price recovery.

Practical Recommendations

For Buyers - The current median price range is suitable for replenishing on demand; avoid large-scale price locking at once. Use futures hedging tools to lock in usage for the next 1-2 months to hedge against the risk of rising raw material costs. - Monitor the PTA and MEG price spread. If raw material prices fall beyond expectations, polyester staple fiber prices may break below the 7000 CNY/ton mark, at which point purchasing efforts can be increased. - It is recommended to sign long-term agreements with suppliers based on 'floating pricing + guaranteed volume' to cope with potential price fluctuations in the second half of the year.

For Chemical Fiber Plants - Strictly control finished goods inventory days, recommended not to exceed 15 days. At the current price level, the risk of inventory impairment outweighs the potential gains from price increases. - Optimize product mix by increasing the production ratio of differentiated varieties (e.g., recycled polyester staple fiber, antibacterial fibers) to avoid price wars in conventional specifications. - Pay attention to the pace of capacity commissioning at the end of the year. If new plants come on stream as scheduled, the first quarter of 2027 may face more severe supply-demand imbalance, requiring early planning for export channels.

The price median is not an endpoint but the starting point for the next round of games. Whether the polyester staple fiber market can find a true bottom near 7373 CNY/ton depends on whether end-user consumption in the third quarter can exceed expectations. Before that, industry participants need more refined inventory management and more flexible pricing strategies.
