Xucun's annual output of 2.8 billion meters of home textile fabric is being redefined by a design competition that has run for 23 years. On July 11, the Haining Home Textile Cup 2026 creative design competition jury kicked off in Xucun. This is not an isolated event. Since its inception in 2003, the competition has received thousands of works from over 130 institutions, becoming a recognized talent pool in China's home textile design sector. According to public industry data, Xucun's home textile output value has exceeded 12.2 billion yuan, with over 2,000 enterprises clustered here. The competition's deep value lies not in the judging itself, but in how it systematically couples massive manufacturing capacity with design creativity. Xucun Party Secretary Xu Xinfeng noted that the competition drives industrial upgrading through three dimensions: promoting innovation, facilitating transformation, and gathering talent. The introduction of AI-assisted design has injected original support into the annual output of 2.8 billion meters of fabric. This means that while most industrial clusters still rely on copying and modifying designs, Xucun is already using digital tools to mass-produce differentiated designs. The establishment of the fabric group directly targets the pain point of homogenization—by focusing on fabric texture and material innovation, it has propelled over 200 enterprises into the national-chic track, with digital jacquard technology enabling industrial-scale reproduction of intangible cultural heritage patterns. This is not just an aesthetic upgrade but a direct boost to supply chain added value. Hai Ning Home Textile Association President Cao Yaoqiang revealed that despite the competition's national influence, the conversion rate of design achievements into industrial output still has room for improvement. To address this, local efforts are focusing on three fronts: broadening promotional coverage to drive original design through market demand; deepening school-enterprise collaboration by leveraging the annual 90 graduates from local fashion schools to build a local talent pipeline; and establishing an industry-academia-research platform to reduce reliance on copying overseas products. The essence of this logic is to transform the design competition from a 'creative showcase' into a 'pre-production station,' allowing each award-winning work to enter the full process of sampling, mass production, and market launch. The theme of this year's competition, 'Weave Today, Reach Far,' explicitly points to the contemporary regeneration of traditional heritage and green digital weaving. Professor Wang Yang from Beijing Institute of Fashion Technology emphasized that the fabric group not only breaks homogenization but also cultivates compound talents with both aesthetic and weaving knowledge. Wang Yi, Vice President of the China Home Textile Association, proposed five future directions, including building a design talent resource pool and expanding AI and fabric special tracks, to open up the full-cycle channel for designer growth. For buyers, this means that the richer and closer to production the upstream creative supply, the faster the downstream product iteration speed and the stronger the overall supply chain response elasticity.
