Nylon DTY prices are undergoing a typical tug-of-war between raw material-driven costs and weak end-user demand. On July 16, 2026, the industry benchmark price settled at 15,760 CNY/ton, down 0.51% from the start of the month. While the decline appears modest, it reveals deep-seated contradictions in profit distribution along the chemical fiber supply chain.
Price Position and Fluctuation Range
Annual statistics show the current price sits at the mid-range of the past 12 months. Over this period, nylon DTY hit a low of 13,560 CNY/ton and a high of 18,960 CNY/ton, a volatility of 28.5%. This wide spread means significant arbitrage opportunities for buyers who can time their inventory build-ups.
At 15,760 CNY/ton, the price is about 3.1% below the mid-point of 16,260 CNY/ton, 3,200 CNY below the annual peak, and 2,200 CNY above the trough. This 'ceiling and floor' pattern is jointly determined by caprolactam capacity expansion upstream and the pace of textile and garment order recovery downstream.
Cost-Demand Squeeze
On the cost side, caprolactam prices remained relatively high in the first half of 2026, directly boosting rigid costs for nylon chips and downstream processing. However, weaving mills generally adopt a just-in-time purchasing strategy, showing limited willingness to absorb high-priced raw materials. This 'cost push without demand pull' scenario keeps nylon DTY prices oscillating in the 15,700-16,000 CNY/ton range.
Feedback from industrial clusters such as Changle in Fujian and Yiwu in Zhejiang indicates that operating rates have not dropped sharply, but finished goods inventories have accumulated. Some small- and medium-sized texturing mills have proactively reduced output in response to fragmented end-order patterns. On the foreign trade front, intensified competition from Southeast Asia is putting pressure on domestic nylon DTY export quotes.
Inventory Cycle Signals
Notably, the current price is at the year's mid-point with zero daily change, suggesting a temporary equilibrium. But equilibrium is fragile. If upstream raw material prices ease, or if downstream stocking seasons like Singles' Day or Black Friday are delayed, prices could slide further. Conversely, a rebound in international oil prices strengthening caprolactam could push nylon DTY back above 16,500 CNY/ton.
For industry participants, the current price level acts as a 'crossroads.' The asymmetric structure of an annual top difference of -3,200 CNY and a bottom difference of +2,200 CNY hints that downside risks slightly outweigh upside potential.
