The long-standing lack of uniform specifications for carbon fiber precursor production equipment is coming to an end with the approval of a new national standard. Led by Jinggong Technology and Huachuang Technology, the national standard titled 'Terminology, Classification, and Model Numbering Method for Complete Sets of Polyacrylonitrile Fiber Production Equipment' has been approved and will take effect on February 1, 2027. This is China's first national standard in the field of complete sets of carbon fiber precursor equipment, marking a critical extension of carbon fiber equipment standardization from the 'carbonization end' to the 'precursor end.'
Event Background
Polyacrylonitrile (PAN) precursor is the precursor to carbon fiber, and its quality directly determines the strength and stability of carbon fiber. The precision and intelligence level of precursor equipment directly affect mass production yield and cost. Previously, the lack of uniform specifications in China's precursor equipment sector led to inconsistent terminology, classification, and model naming, causing inefficiencies in production line design, equipment procurement, and supply chain coordination.
This new national standard unifies, for the first time, the terminology, classification, and model numbering rules across the entire process from polymerization, spinning, drawing, drying, to solvent recovery. This means that in the future, different manufacturers will share a common 'language system' when procuring precursor equipment, significantly reducing communication costs for equipment selection and production line integration.
Notably, the national standard for 'Terminology, Classification, and Model Numbering Method for Complete Sets of Fiber Carbonization Production Equipment,' also led by Jinggong Technology, has been in effect since June 2025. With both the precursor and carbonization standards now in place, China's full-process carbon fiber equipment now has a unified and coherent standard system.
Industry Impact
From an industrial perspective, the primary effect of standardization is improved supply chain coordination efficiency. For equipment manufacturers, unified terminology and classification rules reduce customization communication costs and promote modular production. For carbon fiber producers, standardized equipment interfaces and model systems will lower technical barriers for production line expansion and modification.
A deeper impact is that the establishment of standards removes obstacles for large-scale domestic adoption and export of equipment. Previously, the lack of uniform standards caused downstream users to question equipment reliability and interchangeability. With the national standard in place, equipment becomes more 'comparable,' allowing high-quality domestic equipment to receive fair evaluations in bidding processes.
From a competitive landscape perspective, Jinggong Technology and Huachuang Technology, through their continuous investment in carbon fiber equipment standards, have secured a dual-standard position covering both precursor and carbonization. This first-mover advantage is likely to translate into market influence. As the global carbon fiber industry moves toward high performance and low cost, a standardized domestic equipment system will provide critical support for the self-sufficiency of China's carbon fiber supply chain.
