The standardization of China's carbon fiber industry is moving from isolated breakthroughs to full-chain integration. The newly approved national standard for polyacrylonitrile fiber production complete equipment terminology, classification, and model numbering pulls the previously chaotic precursor machinery sector into a unified regulatory framework. From polymerization tanks to solvent recovery towers, every piece of equipment now has a standardized identity and specification.
Background
Led by Zhejiang Jinggong Integrated Technology Co., Ltd. and Zhejiang Huachuang Carbon Fiber Technology Co., Ltd., the standard will take effect on February 1, 2027. PAN precursor is the precursor to carbon fiber, and its quality directly determines carbon fiber strength and stability. For years, the domestic precursor equipment sector lacked unified norms, leading to inconsistent terminology, classification, and model naming, which hindered line design, procurement, and supply chain coordination. The new standard for the first time unifies terminology, classification, and model numbering across the entire process—from polymerization, spinning, drawing, and drying to solvent recovery—filling a critical gap.
Previously, a national standard for fiber carbonization complete equipment, also led by Jinggong Technology, was implemented in June 2025. With both precursor and carbonization equipment now covered, China's carbon fiber full-process equipment has a coherent standard system.
Industry Impact
The impact of standardization on upstream and downstream is significant. For equipment manufacturers, unified terminology and model rules will substantially reduce communication costs during line design and prevent procurement errors caused by naming discrepancies. For carbon fiber producers, standardized equipment interfaces and parameter systems enable seamless integration of equipment from different suppliers, improving line construction speed and yield rates.
From a cost perspective, standardization is expected to lower trial-and-error expenses in equipment procurement. Previously, buyers often had to repeatedly compare model meanings across vendors, and terminology ambiguities sometimes led to mismatches. After the standard takes effect, buyers can quickly filter suitable equipment based on unified classification rules, reducing customization communication costs and compressing line investment budgets.
A deeper impact lies in supply chain security. As a strategic new material, carbon fiber's core equipment has long relied on imports. The establishment of a domestic standard system provides a technical basis and evaluation benchmark for replacing imported equipment. Jinggong Technology stated it will continue to collaborate with Huachuang Technology, leveraging the two national standards to promote group standards and tackle bottlenecks in large-tow, high-performance PAN precursor and carbonization equipment, helping secure China's entire carbon fiber supply chain.
