Despite the traditional off-season in July, Shengze and Jiaxing, two major nylon filament trading hubs, have seen slight price upticks for certain specifications. Combined with stable upstream raw material prices, this signals a potential market adjustment.
Price Structure Divergence: Widening Gap Between Monofilament and Multifilament
Latest data reveals significant price divergence within nylon filament. Semi-dull nylon monofilament 17D/1F first-grade is priced at 17,900 yuan/ton, while 70D/12F bright profiled multifilament stands at only 12,600 yuan/ton—a gap exceeding 5,000 yuan. This stems from rigid demand for fine-denier monofilament in warp knitting and lace applications, versus substitution pressure on coarse-denier multifilament in conventional fabrics.
In the FDY series, 40D/12F nylon-6 FDY (Hai'an) is quoted at 14,800 yuan/ton, while the fully dull variant (Zhejiang) reaches 15,600 yuan/ton, reflecting a clear premium for functional products. ATY prices remain relatively firm, with 160D nylon-6 ATY semi-dull and fully dull both at 15,100 yuan/ton, supported by applications in cotton-like and wool-like fabrics.
Raw Material Cost Support: Caprolactam Stabilization Effect
Caprolactam prices have recently stabilized after weeks of narrow fluctuation. As raw materials account for over 70% of production costs in nylon filament, this provides a clear floor. However, downstream weaving mills remain cautious, primarily restocking for immediate needs without building inventories.
This 'stable raw materials, cautious buying' dynamic has led to structural price adjustments: certain specifications see upticks due to low stocks or concentrated orders, but broad-based increases remain elusive. Industry data shows Shengze's nylon filament operating rate at around 70%, with inventories at moderate-to-low levels.
Regional Response: Differentiated Strategies in Shengze and Jiaxing
Shengze, a traditional nylon filament hub, has been more aggressive in adjusting prices for fine-denier monofilament and fully dull FDY, reflecting resilient demand from local warp knitting and high-end fabric mills. Jiaxing's market focuses more on conventional multifilament and ATY, with smaller price fluctuations.
Regional price disparities are evident. For example, 40D/12F nylon-6 FDY from Hai'an is 14,800 yuan/ton, while Fujian's 28D/10F nylon-6 FDY is 15,700 yuan/ton. These differences reflect variations in raw material costs, processing fees, and logistics, offering arbitrage opportunities for cross-regional procurement.
Outlook: Moderate Adjustment, Limited Range
Based on raw material costs, inventory levels, and downstream demand, nylon filament prices are expected to show 'selective increases, overall stability' over the next 1-2 weeks. Upticks will likely focus on fine-denier monofilament and fully dull FDY, with increases of 200-500 yuan/ton.
However, caution is warranted as terminal apparel orders have not yet shown clear recovery, and foreign trade faces uncertainties from exchange rate fluctuations and rising shipping costs. Thus, this adjustment is more cost-pushed than demand-driven.
