When carbon fiber precursor equipment finally speaks a unified national language, the long-standing coordination costs across China's carbon fiber supply chain are set to drop systematically.
Standard Landed: From Single Breakthrough to Full-Chain Integration
The Standardization Administration of China has recently approved a pivotal national standard—'Terminology, Classification, and Model Numbering Method for Complete Sets of Polyacrylonitrile Fiber Production Equipment'—which will take effect on February 1, 2027. This marks the first national standard for complete precursor equipment in China, led by Zhejiang Jinggong Integrated Technology Co., Ltd. and Zhejiang Huachuang Carbon Fiber Technology Co., Ltd. Previously, national standards in carbon fiber equipment covered only the carbonization stage. The standard for carbonization equipment, also led by Jinggong Technology, has been in effect since June 2025. With this new approval, both core stages—precursor production and carbonization—now fall under a unified national framework.
Polyacrylonitrile (PAN) precursor is the decisive precursor for carbon fiber performance, directly determining the strength and stability of the final product. The precision and intelligence level of precursor production equipment directly affect production yield and unit cost. For years, the domestic precursor equipment sector lacked unified specifications, with equipment terminology, classification, and model numbering varying widely, leading to inefficiencies in production line design, equipment procurement, and supply chain coordination. The new standard, for the first time, unifies terminology, classification, and model numbering rules across the entire process—from polymerization, spinning, drawing, and drying to solvent recovery—directly filling a standard void in the precursor equipment field. For equipment manufacturers, this means a unified product spectrum, eliminating the need for customized naming systems for different clients. For downstream carbon fiber producers, equipment selection and production line integration will become more transparent and efficient.
Industry Impact: Lower Coordination Costs, Faster Localization
Standardization essentially reduces information friction costs between supply chain links. In the carbon fiber industry, these costs have been persistently high. The lack of unified interface language between precursor and carbonization equipment often leads to poor compatibility, long commissioning cycles, and high maintenance complexity. The new standard will drive equipment manufacturers to develop products according to a unified specification, shortening production line construction cycles and reducing operational complexity. From a broader perspective, the formation of a full-process equipment standard system is a critical infrastructure milestone for China's domestic carbon fiber industry to transition from 'capable of production' to 'producing high quality.' Currently, the global carbon fiber market is still dominated by companies like Toray and Hexcel. The penetration rate of domestic carbon fiber in high-end applications (e.g., aerospace, wind turbine main beams) remains low. One of the core bottlenecks limiting upward breakthroughs is the insufficient stability and consistency of precursor quality, which heavily depends on equipment precision and process control capability. With unified standards, equipment manufacturers can more accurately target industry-wide needs for technological iteration, and precursor producers can optimize process parameters under a more standardized equipment environment. This virtuous cycle will directly drive breakthroughs in large-tow, high-performance PAN precursor and carbonization equipment. Jinggong Technology has explicitly stated that it will continue to collaborate with Huachuang Technology to promote the implementation and application of both national standards and group standards, targeting core bottlenecks.
