The pricing of water treatment fiber balls has entered an unusual period of calm. On July 18, Henan Kaijie Water Treatment Co., Ltd. quoted 15,500 RMB/ton for ordinary fiber balls of three diameters (30mm, 40mm, and 50mm), unchanged from previous trading days. This price has remained flat for consecutive days, reflecting a market where supply and demand are equally unable to break the balance.
Supply-Demand Logic Behind Price Signals
From the cost side, the main raw material for fiber balls—polyester staple fiber—has seen relatively stable prices recently. Fluctuations in upstream PTA and ethylene glycol have narrowed, leaving staple fiber mills with little room for significant price cuts. However, downstream procurement for water treatment projects has clearly slowed. Municipal wastewater treatment plant upgrades have entered a mid-year review phase, and filter replacement needs for industrial circulating water systems have been delayed due to production cuts at some plants.
This means fiber ball producers are squeezed between stable costs and weak demand. As a key supplier in central China, Henan Kaijie's stable pricing is a perfect footnote to the industry's wait-and-see sentiment. Without large-scale orders, producers prefer to maintain current prices and digest inventory rather than trigger price wars by cutting first.
Regional Industrial Clusters and Channel Characteristics
Fiber ball production and sales are highly regionally concentrated. Henan Kaijie is based in Zhengzhou, while most of China's fiber ball capacity is located in Henan, Shandong, and Hebei provinces. These regions are not only hubs for textile chemical fiber but also clusters for water treatment equipment manufacturers, forming a short-chain supply system from raw materials to end users.
Unlike conventional textile fabrics, fiber ball buyers are mostly environmental engineering companies and water utilities, with long order cycles, large batch sizes, and relatively low price sensitivity. This means price changes often lag behind raw material markets by one to two weeks, and once a price range is set, it is hard to break in the short term. The current 15,500 RMB/ton quote has held for nearly three weeks and is unlikely to be broken before the autumn centralized bidding season.
Impact on Buyers and Foreign Trade
For direct buyers, the current price stability is both an opportunity and a trap. The opportunity is that prices will not rise sharply in the short term, giving buyers ample time for price comparison and negotiation. The trap is that waiting for further price drops may cause them to miss the window for low-inventory replenishment.
In foreign trade, fiber ball exports mainly target Southeast Asia and the Middle East. Desalination and wastewater treatment projects in these regions have rigid demand for filter media, but due to exchange rate fluctuations and rising shipping costs, the competitiveness of Chinese quotes is being eroded. The domestic price of 15,500 RMB/ton is roughly equivalent to 2,150 USD/ton, which is approaching the cost line of local alternatives for Southeast Asian buyers.
