A new national standard is reshaping the rules of the carbon fiber equipment industry. China's standardization authority has recently approved and released 'Terminology, Classification and Model Numbering Method for Complete Sets of Polyacrylonitrile Fiber Production Equipment', the first national standard for complete sets of carbon fiber precursor equipment in China, to take effect on February 1, 2027. The standard was jointly led by Zhejiang Jinggong Integrated Technology Co., Ltd. and Zhejiang Huachuang Carbon Fiber Technology Co., Ltd., filling a long-standing gap in standardized specifications for precursor production equipment.
Industrial Background of the Standard
Polyacrylonitrile (PAN) precursor is the precursor of carbon fiber, and its quality directly determines the strength and stability of carbon fiber. Precursor production involves multiple processes including polymerization, spinning, drawing, drying, and solvent recovery. The precision and intelligence level of equipment at each stage directly affect mass production yield and cost. For a long time, China's precursor equipment sector lacked unified specifications, with inconsistent terminology, classification, and model numbering, leading to inefficiencies in production line design, equipment procurement, and industrial chain coordination. The newly released national standard for the first time unifies the terminology, classification, and model numbering rules for the entire process, meaning that equipment manufacturers, fiber producers, and downstream users will share a common 'language' system.
From Single Breakthrough to Full-Process Coverage
Notably, this is not an isolated case in the carbon fiber equipment field. Previously, the 'Terminology, Classification and Model Numbering Method for Complete Sets of Fiber Carbonization Production Equipment', also led by Jinggong Technology, was implemented in June 2025. With this, both key stages of carbon fiber production—precursor and carbonization—are now covered by national standards, providing a unified and coherent standard system for China's entire carbon fiber equipment process. From an industrial perspective, this combination of standards lowers the technical threshold for equipment selection and production line integration, and provides a referenceable technical benchmark for replacing imported equipment with domestic alternatives. For the carbon fiber industry currently in an expansion cycle, the efficiency gains from standardization will directly translate into cost advantages.
Transmission Effects on the Industrial Chain
What does the advancement of standardization mean for different parts of the industrial chain? For upstream equipment manufacturers, unified terminology and classification help reduce communication costs in customized development and accelerate product iteration. For midstream precursor and carbon fiber producers, standards provide clear basis for equipment selection and acceptance, reducing risks in production line construction. For downstream users, standardization indirectly ensures the consistency of carbon fiber product quality, benefiting large-scale applications in aerospace, new energy, sports equipment, and other fields. Jinggong Technology has stated that it will continue to collaborate with Huachuang Technology, leveraging the promotion of both national standards, while advancing the application of group standards to tackle core bottlenecks in large-tow, high-performance PAN precursor, and carbonization equipment.
