In the EU, North America, Japan, and South Korea, cotton's eco-friendly image has long been entrenched, and the 85% recognition rate further cements its 'green fiber' status. Notably, in major textile-producing and consuming nations such as China and India, consumer approval of cotton's environmental credentials also exceeds 80%, nearly matching the global average. This means that the environmental pressure transmitted from end demand to upstream procurement is becoming undifferentiated.
In contrast, consumer ratings for petroleum-based synthetic fibers like polyester and nylon continue to decline on the environmental dimension. For cotton-producing regions, this is not a simple boon. End-market demands for 'eco-friendly cotton' have evolved from concepts to traceability. Cotton regions in Xinjiang, India, and the US are all undergoing a transition from 'producing cotton' to 'producing certified cotton.' Without traceability certifications, even naturally eco-friendly cotton may be excluded from brand procurement lists.
