The China Home Textile Association recently held a seminar in Qingdao covering seven group standards, with attendees including association president Zhu Xiaohong, vice president Ge Jiangxia, Soochow University, Jiangnan University, and leading companies such as Luolai Home Textile, Shuixing Hometextile, Zhongdi Home Textile, and Weiqiao Textile. This is not a routine meeting but a critical turning point for the home textile industry's standard system to evolve from 'existence' to 'excellence.'
Standard Coverage: From Bedding to Pets, from Color to Data
The seven standards under discussion cover a wide and highly targeted range. Among them, 'Design and Evaluation of Sleep-Aiding Colors for Bedding,' co-developed with the China Fashion Color Association, attempts for the first time to quantify the subjective concept of 'sleep-aiding colors.' This means future fabric color selection for bedding will be guided by standardized parameters rather than designer intuition alone.
Another notable standard is the 'Guide for Comfort Performance Evaluation of Bedding Sets,' led by Jiangsu Golden Sun Textile Technology, focusing on turning the vague concept of 'comfort' into measurable indicators. For buyers, this means the comfort of bedding sets will become testable and comparable, not just based on hand feel.
The 'High-Quality Wool Quilt' standard, proposed by Shuixing Hometextile, involves the Nanjing Customs Testing Center in defining indicators. The wool quilt market has long suffered from inconsistent quality definitions, making it hard for consumers to distinguish high-grade wool from ordinary fillers. Once implemented, this standard will directly eliminate low-end products that pass off inferior goods.
The inclusion of 'Pet Nest and Mat' reflects the industry's keen awareness of niche markets. As the pet economy heats up, pet bedding has lacked safety and comfort standards for years. Zhongdi Home Textile's initiative fills this gap and offers OEM factories a new product category.
Additionally, standards such as 'Cotton and Apocynum Blended Bedding,' 'Data Specifications for Electronic Care Labels in Home Textiles,' and 'Guide for Comfort Evaluation of Pillow and Cushion Products' address new fiber applications, data traceability, and pillow support, forming a full-chain coverage from raw materials to end use.
Industry Impact: How Standard Upgrades Affect the Supply Chain
Standards are never just technical documents; they are tools for industry consolidation. For upstream fabric suppliers, the quantification of sleep-aiding color standards requires recalibration in dye selection, color fastness, and color control. Suppliers capable of providing 'sleep-aiding color' certification will gain higher pricing power.
For midstream bedding manufacturers, the comfort evaluation guide will force increased R&D investment in quilting techniques, filling ratios, and fabric weight. The low-price, high-volume model will lose market credibility against measurable standards.
The electronic care label data specification signals an acceleration of digital supply chains. Future care labels will no longer be mere compliance tags but data carriers tracking raw material batches, production dates, and wash cycles—critical for export compliance and after-sales management.
The involvement of the Nanjing Customs Testing Center in the wool quilt standard hints at consideration for international testing mutual recognition. For companies exporting wool quilts to Europe and Japan, this standard could become a domestic testing alternative to overseas certifications.
