The southwestern border region is emerging as a new hotspot for textile industry relocation. On July 21, the 60,000-ton knitted fabric construction project of Yunnan Bohai Tai Textile Co., Ltd. officially launched in Kaiyuan Green Textile Science Park, with a total investment of 650 million yuan and 20 modern intelligent knitted fabric production lines planned. Once fully operational, it is expected to generate over 1 billion yuan in annual output, pay over 14 million yuan in taxes, and directly employ 1,200 people. These figures signal an accelerated shift of eastern textile capacity to the southwest.
Background
Bohai Tai's parent company, Guangzhou Delaika Textile Co., Ltd., founded in 2019, is a comprehensive fabric enterprise integrating raw materials, yarn, weaving, dyeing, testing, and trading. It ranks among the 'Top 10 Fabric Houses' in Guangzhou's Zhongda Market, with annual sales exceeding 1 billion yuan. The move from a leading fabric hub in Guangzhou to Kaiyuan in southern Yunnan reflects a strategic westward expansion.
Kaiyuan Green Textile Science Park was incorporated into the Hekou Border Industrial Park master plan in 2023 and is the only industrial park in Yunnan province with complete textile printing and dyeing capacity. Leveraging stable, low-cost industrial heat, port access, border openness, and RCEP advantages, the park serves as a prime carrier for industrial transfer. The Bohai Tai project covers 294.79 mu (about 19.65 hectares) with a total building area of 170,000 square meters, marking a key phase in the park's expansion.
Industry Impact
Dong Shuxiu, Vice President of the China Printing and Dyeing Industry Association, noted at the launch ceremony that the textile industry is accelerating its shift toward green, low-carbon, and intelligent manufacturing, with the southwest serving as a core destination for domestic industrial transfer. The Bohai Tai project is a landmark for regional green textile transformation, filling gaps in the local high-end knitted fabric chain and significantly boosting cluster development and employment.
From a cost perspective, Kaiyuan's abundant clean energy significantly reduces steam and electricity costs, providing solid support for green production. This gives Bohai Tai a notable cost advantage over eastern counterparts, translating directly into profit margins. For buyers, fabric prices from the southwestern production base are expected to become increasingly competitive.
In terms of market reach, Kaiyuan is close to Kunming and adjacent to the Hekou port, enabling access to both domestic and Southeast Asian markets. Bai Limin, Deputy Director of the CNTAC Industrial Park Office, suggested leveraging RCEP policy benefits to build a 'southern Yunnan fabric, Southeast Asian garment, European and American sales market' collaboration chain. Once the Bohai Tai project is completed, the supply gap for high-end knitted fabrics in the southwest will be filled, accelerating the formation of a green textile supply chain linking domestic and Southeast Asian markets.
