The pace of standardization in China's home textile industry is accelerating. On July 21, 2026, a workshop focusing on seven group standards was held in Qingdao, Shandong, attended by nearly 20 institutions and companies, including the China Home Textile Association (CHTA), Soochow University, Luolai Home Textile, Shuixing Home Textile, Weiqiao Textile, and Zhongjia Textile. The dense agenda signals a clear shift from mass production to precision, scenario-based, data-driven manufacturing.
Standards Cover the Full Chain, from Color to Data
The seven standards under discussion span the entire value chain—from design and materials to end-use and smart labeling. The 'Sleep-Aiding Color Design and Evaluation for Bedding' standard, co-led by CHTA and the China Fashion Color Association, aims to translate subjective 'sleep-promoting colors' into quantifiable metrics. This marks the industry's first attempt to codify a functional claim through standard language, meaning future product color design will be evidence-based rather than designer-intuition-driven.
The 'Comfort Performance Evaluation Guide for Bedding Sets' and the 'Comfort Evaluation Guide for Pillow and Cushion Products' are led by Jiangsu Gold Sun, Luolai Home Textile, and Soochow University. Their core is to establish a mathematical model and evaluation system for 'comfort.' For buyers, this means the traditional reliance on hand-feel and word-of-mouth will be gradually replaced by reproducible test data.
The 'High-Quality Wool Quilt' standard, proposed by Shuixing Home Textile, with testing indicators developed by the Nanjing Customs Testing Center, aims to fill the long-standing gap in unified quality definitions for wool quilts. This will provide clear quality control benchmarks for procurement and offer a domestic reference for exporters facing international wool product testing requirements.
The 'Pet Nest and Mat' standard reflects the industry's expansion into the pet economy niche. With rapid growth in pet home furnishings, this category urgently needs standardization. The standard will cover safety, washability, and anti-mite properties, directly impacting OEM process selection.
The 'Electronic Care Label Data Specification for Home Textiles,' led by Weiqiao Textile, focuses on digitizing washing and care data. This is not just a smart-label technology upgrade but an interface for home textiles to join IoT and supply chain traceability systems. For exporters, if the electronic care label aligns with international RFID standards, compliance costs could be significantly reduced.
The 'Cotton and Apocynum Blended Bedding' standard, proposed by Weiqiao's Jiajia Home Textile, covers performance indicators for a novel natural-fiber blend. Apocynum's antibacterial and breathable advantages need quantification through standards to build market trust.
Industry Impact: Standards as Supply Chain Drivers
These seven standards are not isolated technical documents; they are concrete implementation points for the home textile industry's structural upgrade during the latter part of the 14th Five-Year Plan. CHTA President Zhu Xiaohong emphasized at the workshop that standards are tools to 'empower product quality improvement and facilitate industry transformation.' From a supply-chain perspective, the dense release of standards will have three major effects:
- Upstream fabric mills: Quantifiable comfort and sleep-color metrics will force fabric development from experience-driven to data-driven. For instance, the sleep-color standard will require dyeing and finishing processes to precisely match specific color temperatures and spectral reflectance, directly impacting the balance between colorfastness and hand-feel.
- Brands and OEMs: The release of niche standards for pet mats and wool quilts means factories targeting these segments must adjust production lines in advance. For example, anti-mite and scratch-resistance indicators in the pet mat standard may require fabrics with higher abrasion resistance and antibacterial finishing.
- Import/export trade: Once the electronic care label standard is finalized, exporters must assess its compatibility with the international GS1 standard. Meanwhile, the high-quality wool quilt standard could become a starting point for Chinese standards to be cited in cross-border procurement contracts, reducing return risks caused by standard differences.
