A donation of 300 sets of thermal underwear, worth over 50,000 yuan, precisely reached 300 needy families in Xixian County, Shanxi. This seemingly small figure offers a valuable case study for the textile industry's evolving social responsibility practices.
Background
In July 2025, the Textile Light Science and Education Foundation partnered with Qingdao Jifa Group to distribute winter supplies in Xixian County, Linfen City, Shanxi. Xixian, formerly a national-level poverty-stricken county, was hit by flash floods in 2025, creating an urgent need for winter warmth. Jifa Group proactively contacted the foundation, donating 300 sets of self-heating thermal underwear with a fair value exceeding 50,000 yuan. Before the Spring Festival, the local Political and Legal Affairs Committee, along with village and community committees, organized on-site distribution to ensure precise delivery.
From an industry perspective, this is more than a simple donation. The foundation has run its "Textile Light, Love and Benefit" initiative since 2017. This event signals a shift from broad advocacy to targeted response—Jifa Group proactively aligned its product with a specific need.
Industry Impact
This event sends three signals to the textile sector.
First, functional fabrics are finding new social application scenarios. Self-heating underwear, originally a consumer product, is now being used for disaster relief, indicating government and NGO recognition of its thermal performance. For manufacturers, this could open a new B2B channel—government procurement and emergency stockpile orders.
Second, corporate social responsibility is becoming "productized." Jifa donated finished goods rather than cash, a model that clears inventory, generates brand exposure, and avoids tax complications. For small and medium textile mills, this "in-kind donation" model is more feasible.
Third, the charity chain is extending downstream. Distribution was managed by the county Political and Legal Affairs Committee and executed by village committees, ensuring items reached end users. This contrasts with the old "donate and forget" model. For donor companies, this means traceable impact data for ESG reports.
