As a core intermediate product in the polyester fiber chain, polyester POY prices are often a leading indicator for downstream weaving activity. On July 24, prices for 150D/48F semi-dull premium grade POY among three major Zhejiang-based producers showed a modest 100 RMB/ton spread—from 8,450 to 8,550 RMB/ton. While the range is narrow, this divergence merits attention from procurement and decision-makers given the backdrop of volatile PTA feedstock and lackluster downstream orders.
Regional Logic Behind Price Divergence
According to public data, Zhejiang Juxing Chemical quoted 8,500 RMB/ton, Rongsheng Petrochemical 8,450 RMB/ton, and Senkai New Materials 8,550 RMB/ton. All three are based in Zhejiang but located in different industrial clusters: Juxing in Shaoxing, home to the China Textile City with dense weaving and dyeing capacity; Rongsheng and Senkai in Hangzhou, a hub for fiber trading and texturing. This regional price gap reflects local supply-demand imbalances. Rongsheng's lower price likely stems from its integrated PTA-polyester cost advantage and possible destocking ahead of the off-season. Senkai's premium suggests product differentiation or niche order execution.
Feedstock vs. Demand: PTA and Weaving Utilization
Current POY price drivers are weak on both sides: PTA prices hover around 5,800-6,000 RMB/ton due to crude oil volatility, while weaving utilization rates in Jiangsu-Zhejiang remain at 68%-72% amid subdued export orders. In this balanced market, a 100 RMB spread signals a shift from market-following to active pricing strategies. Buyers must look beyond absolute prices to inventory levels and delivery terms.
