A national standard critical to medical packaging and military protection is moving from concept to reality. In July 2026, the discussion meeting for the national standard on flash-spun nonwovens was held in Nantong, Jiangsu, marking a substantive phase in the drafting process. Xiamen Dangsheng New Material Co., Ltd., the lead drafter, together with over 20 key enterprises and research institutes including Jiangsu Qingyun, Kingfa Science & Technology, Minshida, and Donghua University, completed two rounds of technical discussions and formed a draft standard. This progress signals that China's flash-spun nonwovens industry is about to end its era without unified national standards and enter a regulated phase.
The Pain Points Behind the Standard Gap
Flash-spun nonwovens are not ordinary textiles but strategic new materials supporting key areas such as medical and pharmaceutical packaging, infectious disease emergency protection, and military protection. Their comprehensive performance—ultra-light, ultra-tough, and highly barrier—makes them irreplaceable in high-end applications. However, the long-term absence of unified product testing methods and grading evaluation systems in China has led to uneven product quality among manufacturers, making it difficult for downstream users to standardize material selection and procurement. This standard gap directly hinders the large-scale substitution of domestic materials. The Guiding Opinions on High-Quality Development of the Industrial Textiles Industry jointly issued by the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology and the National Development and Reform Commission have clearly identified flash spinning as a key technology to be tackled, and the Textile Industry '14th Five-Year' Development Plan lists it as a key technology breakthrough for advanced textile products. The drafting of the national standard is precisely the institutional support needed to implement these policies.
From Technological Breakthrough to Rule Dominance
Dangsheng New Material's leading role in standard setting is built on its industrial foundation of technological breakthroughs. In 2019, Dangsheng's first flash-spun nonwoven production line achieved commercial mass production, making it the second company globally and the first in China to master the complete technology and achieve mass production, breaking an overseas company's nearly 60-year exclusive technology blockade. Since then, the company has won the First Prize of Shanghai Science and Technology Progress in 2020 and the First Prize of China Textile Industry Federation Technology Invention in 2022, and has been selected twice for the national biomedical material innovation task 'Revealing the List and Taking Command' project. The shift from technology catching-up to standard setting reflects the deep transformation of China's industrial textiles industry from 'follower' to 'leader.' During the standard drafting process, the drafting units systematically collected full-specification product test data, investigated the differentiated needs of users in various industries, and summarized technical indicators for multi-scenario applications—essentially transforming corporate R&D experience into industry public knowledge.
The Transmission Effect of Standard Implementation on the Industry Chain
The impact of the national standard on the industry chain will be structural. For upstream raw material suppliers, a unified standard means clearer quality thresholds, squeezing the survival space of inferior raw materials. For midstream manufacturers, the standard will standardize product classification logic and testing methods, reducing disorderly competition among enterprises and concentrating resources on technology leaders. For downstream users—especially medical device packaging and protective equipment manufacturers—the standard provides quantifiable material selection criteria, reducing the trial-and-error cost of procurement decisions. At a deeper level, when domestic flash-spun nonwovens have the endorsement of a national standard, the threshold for substitution in rigorous applications such as medical and military fields will significantly decrease, further reducing import dependence. The standard drafting team has confirmed that a draft for comment will be completed soon, meaning the countdown to the formal release of the standard has begun.
