Nylon POY prices have been consolidating around 14,000 RMB/ton, a level that sits neither at the year's peak nor near its trough. With a full-year trading range of 11,300 to 16,950 RMB/ton, the current price occupies a mid-to-high position, effectively surpassing the industry's average cost line.
Drivers Behind the Upward Price Shift
The annual average price of nylon POY over the past year stands at 12,878.96 RMB/ton, meaning the current level is roughly 8.7% above that mean. This premium is not driven by short-term sentiment but by sustained strength in upstream caprolactam prices. Caprolactam, the direct feedstock for nylon POY, has seen supply tighten since Q2 2026 due to planned maintenance at several plants. This supply-side constraint pushed raw material costs higher, which quickly transmitted down to the nylon POY segment.
Notably, the July 27 price showed zero daily change, indicating a market in wait-and-see mode. Buyers and sellers are at odds: upstream mills prefer to hold firm given manageable inventory levels, while downstream texturizing and weaving mills show clear resistance to high-priced feedstock, purchasing only for immediate needs and showing little appetite for stockpiling.
Regional Reactions and Inventory Cycles
In key industrial clusters such as Changle (Fujian) and Yiwu (Zhejiang), texturizing mill operating rates hover around 70%, but new order inflows remain limited. Some small-to-medium texturizing mills have reduced raw material inventory from the usual 15 days to just 7-10 days to hedge against potential price corrections. This destocking behavior, in turn, slows the circulation of nylon POY, creating a temporary equilibrium where high prices suppress demand and weak demand caps further price increases.
On the fabric side, grey fabric prices for nylon-based products like nylon taffeta and taslan have struggled to keep pace with fiber cost increases. End-brand apparel procurement budgets have not been adjusted upward, squeezing the profit margins of fabric traders. Some foreign trade firms report increased inquiry frequency from overseas clients for nylon fabrics, but the time from inquiry to actual order placement has lengthened, and order conversion rates have declined.
Price Outlook and Operational Recommendations
Given the distance from the yearly high (16,950 RMB/ton) and low (11,300 RMB/ton), the current price has roughly 2,950 RMB/ton of upside potential and 2,700 RMB/ton of downside risk. The most likely near-term scenario is high-level consolidation, with a breakout requiring a new catalyst—either tighter feedstock supply or an unexpected rebound in end-demand.
